    • Chang mai and the jungle trek..

      Well thats us just back from treking in the jungle and it was a real blast. We met lots of really nice people and seen some beautiful wilderness in the northern region of thailand.

      The trek was for 3 days and 2nights and we stayed the 1st night in a rural village with all these locals people, we all slept in a hut which was about as basic as one could imagine. The next day we went swimming in an amazing river which had a series of rather large waterfalls and this was regarded as how u get your daily shower.

      The next night we stayed in another village which was actually quite nice but we were still sleeping in a big hut.In this village there was a wee monkey that had been rescued from the wild by one of the locals, it was only 6 months old. Its mother had been shot so the locals had adopted it,funny thing was it took quite a liking to me,so much so that it peed on me.I have to say tho it was absolutely beautiful, really really cute was thinking i could just take it home with me.

      On the last day we went to see yet another big waterfall in the morning, then we went bamboo rafting which was really good craic. The last thing we were to do was elephant treking. By this stage in the afternoon the heavens had decided to open and consequently everything got soaked and the elephant trek became a river trek on the back of an elephant. We were not really to fussed on the elephant treking, thought it was abit cruel cos when the elephants decided to stop and eat or generally just try to do what it wanted to do and the guywho was sitting on its head would hit it an almighty whack on the side of the head which sounded like abig chime being sounded. As well as the cruelty issue it was also a wee bit unstable and Gill wouldnt be the best at unstable heights. However, i on the other hand being the big hard man found it no problem whats so ever, my masculinaty is intact!!(only joking i was bricking too).
      So we came back to chiang mai on friday night and went on the town with all the folk from the trek, met a couple from galway who are on there way back to ireland they have been away for a year in south america and australia. We all got suitably merry said our good byes at the end of the night and went off to bed.

      Anyway this is our last couple of days in the north as we are making our way to phuket on monday, we are really looking forward to the islands, not that we dont like it in chiang mai. Chiang mai is soo soo much more realxed than bangkok.

      Folks hope everybody is well and you will all be glad to here that it has been raining here for 2 days now. Still warm tho, so its not too bad.

    • travel BLOG no.1 from ferg and gill!!

      Well me and gill have been away for just over a week now and it has been fairly hectic. We started of in Dubai, which was absolutely unreal, spectacular, rediculous, monsterous, amazing and some times very stupid. All of these descriptions may seem some what contradictory however you have too see this place to believe it. But all in all the 1st stop of our journey was relaxing and not too much of a culture shock too settle us in nicely. Apart from the heat that was just rediculous, it was 35 d as we got off the plane at 2 in the morning. I actually turned to gill and thought the captain was taking mick out of us. Although when i walked out side the plane it became evident that he clearly was not pulling our leg. Luckly Dubai has air conditioned everything, even the bus stops are air conditioned and thats no joke. My approach too life in Dubia and dealing with the heat as i described to a business in our hotel was that whaen i visit donegal in my home land the sea is very cold and i can only just stick my feet in to test the water at which i find it far too cold and deside against freezing my balls bits off, well i find this approach to the heat of dubai is fairly appropriate and getting me out of a air conditioned hotel or taxi or swimming pool for that matter takes a little persuasion.

      So next stop after our 3 or 4 days in dubai was bangkok, well lets talk about bangkok what can one say!! Bangkok takes a wee bit of getting used too. Its big and sweaty and everybody is trying to get you to buy something or take you on an over priced taxi trip via some shops that they will get government funded gasoline vouchers for. Once you get used to this side of life and become abit more street wise then you can start too enjoy yourself and relax without always thinking that you are being stroked for every last baht!!

      Well im running out of time so i will finish up quickly by telling abit about some tings we done in bangkok.
      Also went to night market where there was a beer festival thing and some really rubbish bands. Also went to visit the Emerald Palace and another couple of temples. Had a relaxation day as it was sunny so relaxed by the pool and had a Beef burger and chips, ah normal food. Best burger I have ever had.
      Was only starting to get used to Bangkok when we were leaving but here is our plan for the nest month so you can keep track of travels.

      30Sept Transfer Hotel to train station, 2hr train Bangkok to Ayuthaya, stay Ayothya Hotel. (a bit like Faulty Towers, met the orginial Manuel with blue satin shorts on).

      1 Oct Overnight train to Chaing Mai, get a bunkbed to sleep too. Transfer to Hotel, Eurana Hotel.
      Arrive Chaing Mai 0900 2 Oct.

      3Day, 2 Nite trek in the Mountains and jungle, includes elephant ride.

      5-8Oct 3 Nights in Eurana Hotel in Chiang Mai.

      8 Oct Travel to Phuket and 3 nights in Baanboa Resort.

      11 Oct Take boat to Phi Phi Island off west coat of Thailand and stay in Beach bungalow called Phi Phi Casita for 5 nights.

      16Oct Take boat to Krabi (Aonag) stay in another beach bungalow 4 nights called Mild Bungalow.

      20Oct Take bus and boat to Koh Samui and stay in bungalow called Koh Samui Island Resort for 5 nights.

      25Oct Take boat to Koh Phangan and stay 4 nights at Prueksa beach resort.

      Then finally 29th Oct boat and bus to Haadyai where we have 7 nights unplanned and time to travel thru malaysia to Singapore.

      right folks been fun thinking about the last week and i will do the same thing next week if you can be bothered reading it.

      take it easy and excuse the bad english and spelling mistakes have no time to fix it..

      hey! We're still in NZ. We fly to fiji on monday. the weather is actually really nice here now, but i suppose you dont really want to hear that. We went up to a farm in Kahoe for a week. It was so nice. We did cape reinga and all that around the top.
      we might see you when we get home. if ye'r in belfast we could do a trip up there.

      Im off to visit rab & cath in their new flat over in Blefast this weekend, so should be fun. Im off work this week for easter so just been painting & wallpapering (not really a holiday!)...

      Jane was down last weekend which was nice & I was up in Bumdee a few weeks back with James to celebrate a year..!

      How yous enjoying it, take it yous are working away & enjoying the sun! Im afraid its still raining here! Yous will prob not want to come back!

      My Hospital post is up at the end of June so Iv started looking round some practices to pay the bills and the audi tt, might have a few hours to work like..! lol
