Backstage handy hints for poses
and poise, a model guide.
Things to avoid pre runway:
Smoked salmon sarnies
Eggs [nothing worse than a windy catwalk]
Fizzy drinks [please, must we endure burping as well?]
Never sniff at one’s attire. Never remark at all, but always
smile and say “this is my favourite piece”. Even when a
designer asks if you don’t mind wearing shoes that are
too small for you, simply smile and say “thank you for your
consideration, I now know they shan’t fall off mid stride.”
How to cut the mustard at castings:
Do not open your gambit with “it took me 45 bleeding
minutes to get here and the tubes were late and and
excuses excuses. One must not be late.”
One must not break wind at crucial moments, ie one’s
pelvis to the head height of casting director. Just watch
their nostrils curl in dismissive horror.
Look out for hidden clues in the eyebrow movements of
your fashion designer as you parade casually towards
them, hopefully one foot in front of the other and not looking
remotely worriedly nor with any hint of desperation.
Accept and understand that people don’t talk, they look.
One must remember to remove one’s ipod from one’s ears
whilst in the waiting room. A lot of campaign jobs have been
lost on this basis alone.
