  • Elite Choir Criteria (thanks Anne!)

    Choir: A body of singers who perform together

    Elite: The choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons, persons of the highest class and someone representing the most choice or select.

    Best elite choral singers possess (among others) the following abilities:

    • to sing precisely in tune and with a vocal timbre which complements the other singers;

    • to sing at precisely controlled levels of volume, matching the dynamics and expression
    marked in the score or prescribed by the conductor, and not sing so loudly as to be markedly detectable as an individual voice within the section;

    • to read and pronounce the lyrics accurately and in the pronunciation style specified by the leader, whatever the language may be;

    • to remain completely alert for long periods, monitoring closely what is going on in a rehearsal or performance;

    • to monitor one's own singing and detect errors.

    • perfect pitch

    • to accept direction from others for the good of the group as a whole, even when the singer disagrees esthetically with the instructions;

    Not only must elite choir members be able to sing but they must be capable of giving a complete show and fully enthralling their audience with breath-taking entertainment.
    In short they need to have the looks of Jessica Alba or Brad Pitt, the theatrical ability of Jim Carrey, dance moves of Justin Timberlake and the voice of an angel.

  • Canterbury Students and Advisors Reunion

    I am trying to organise a Canterbury Students Reunion for all people who went to Geek Camp 08 and are now studying in Canterbury whether at UC, Lincoln uni or other. It will be most likely held in the UCSA building but I need people to show interest and pass on details to other people who dont read Canta. If interested I just need to know if there is enough people interested so reply to this thread or to my email in Canta and I can try to organise a time and date!

      hey geek camper buddies, thought id share my awesome news with pretty much everyone i can. i play inline hockey (think ice hockey minus the ice- thats pretty much it) and just got back from the world champs in philadelphia. we won! big shiny gold medal! yay!

      LOL! the newspaper came today to my school to take a pic of me for getting into biofutures08. gues what i was holding in my hand? thats rite...a conical flask. the photographer was walking past the store room and saw the blue copper sulfate and said "crikey that looks awesome!" and so the pic is of me pouring it from a little beaker to a big conical flask of ...*drum roll please* WATER. jeez guys, can't you come up with anything more creative. my cheeks are sore fromsmiling for like a whole HOUR cos the photographer was like i dont like it, moves the flash, ugh, i dont like it, moves it, oh it looked better first time round. hmph, oh well, look out for me in the howick and pakuranga times on MONDAY!
