We're all connected. By helping another, we're helping ourselves! And for that reason, we need to be able to ask for help when we need it, too. By allowing someone to help us, we are actually giving that person the opportunity to learn and grow!
It's good to help out, and it's good to seek help when we need it, too. WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

I have a diploma in Healing Meditation and I am now studying Lifestyle Enhancement and Spiritual Coaching.

I work in a Nursing Home as a Team Leader and am now studying my Level 4 in Health & Social Care, so not have much time on bebo.

    Welcome to Friends of the Western Buddhist Order Highlands:
    a network of Buddhist groups located north of the Caledonian Canal, in Morayshire, Easter Ross and on the Westen Isles.





    Buddhist practice and meditation are possibly not what come to mind in connection with Scotland and the Scottish Highlands, and while Inverness definitely does have more churches than Buddhist temples along the banks of the Ness, it is home to one of the FWBO groups who meet to meditate and engage in Buddhist enquiry. It is also home to at least two Tibetan Buddhist groups and one Zen meditation group.

    In Morayshire, along the southern coast of the Moray Firth, there is an FWBO group who meet weekly to meditate, followers of Thich Nhat Hanh's mindfulness meditation practice, a Soka Gakkai group who use Buddhist chanting as a way of bringing about positive mental states and Engaged Buddhists who are seeking ways to apply the insights from meditation practice and dharma teachings to situations of social, political, and economic suffering and injustice.

    Friends of the Western Buddhist Order was brought to the Highlands by Vimalavajra, then chairman of the Glasgow Buddhist Centre, eleven years ago and there are now four groups which meet to meditate, teach meditation and enquire into the relevance of Buddhist teachings to the lives of individuals here and now.


    In addition there is a year round programme of Buddhist meditation and study days, weekend Buddhist meditation retreats, family events and evenings of Buddhist devotional ritual.

    Buddhist meditation groups currently running are in Inverness, Forres (Morayshire), Tain (Easter Ross) and Stornoway (Western Isles). Newcomers wanting to learn to meditate, find out about Buddhism or who are simply curious are more than welcome.
