A Moment Of Madness, A Lifetime Of Sadness
Me, Myself, and I
Hi Everyone!
We're a Transition Year YSI group from St. Aloysius in Carrigtwohill. We are doing our YSI project on "Speeding / Young Drivers", our group's name is "A Moment of Madness, A Lifetime of Sadness". We feel that this is a very serious issue in Ireland today as so many young lives are ended everyday all over Ireland. We want to make a massive change and help people realise the dangers they are causing when they speed on Irish roads. People are dying everyday because of this, help us save lives... join the group!! thanks for visiting the page..please leave a comment!

In 2007 336 lives were ended on roads in Ireland. Thats 336 broken hearted families and 336 empty seats. Please stop the deaths. Life is short, once its gone you'll never have it back. Please support this page.

AWARENESS NIGHT!!

  • Poems on Speeding and Young Drivers

    It’s In Your Hands

One car, one drive, three friends

That’s all it takes to meet one’s end.

The speed, the chase, the thrill,

No more, no less, four boys killed.

Meant to go to school today,

Instead they lie beneath the clay.

We grieve by tears, in which we drown,

See the signs, please slow down.

Can’t you see you’re dear to us?

For me you’re worth all the fuss.

Belt up, strap in, hold tight,

What is worth more than life ?

How would it feel to kill another ?

Someone’s son, daughter or even a mother.

    200km/h

    200km/h music pumping,

Suspension jumping, smoke flowing, senses going.

    Motors racing, hearts pacing,

Trying to out run the moon, hand braking,

    Hands shaking, engine gone BOOM!

He is gone; you’ve won, racing,

On you set yourself loose, driving to beat.

You come to the bend, now you feel the heat,

Hit the ditch; fly high into the night,

    And land in Rafferty’s field.

Now you know fright, you’ve made your choice,

Played your hand, but it’s with death,

    You’ve paid your price.

  • Statistics on Deaths on Irish Roads

In 2005, 396 died on the roads. That's an average of 1 person every day.
In 2005, 78% of young drivers killed were male and only 22% were female.
The primary factor in road accidents involving young drivers is speed.
Young male car drivers are responsible for 50% of single vehicle fatalities.
Car crashes are the number 1 killer of young men aged 17 - 34.
Young drivers accounted for 33% of fatalities in 2006.
Young male drivers between 17 and 34 are most at risk.
The numbers of young drivers injured in cars is much higher than older drivers.
Young drivers are more likely to be killed at night and weekends.
In 2005, 62,000 young people sat their Leaving Cert.
Judging by the currrent upward trend, unless attitudes to speed, drink and unsafe driving change, over 2,000 of them will have been killed in collisions by 2012.
Look at the person next to you. Will it be them or you.
The 'It'll never happen to me' attitude, is wrong.
The question is which of you will it happen to?
HELP SAVE LIVES ON IRISH ROADS
    BY WORKING TO CHANGE ATTITUDES
DON'T WAIT TILL IT'S TOO LATE!

    2004- 374 deaths
    2005- 396 deaths
    2006- 368 deaths
    2007- 336 deaths
