- MIDS started out in October '07 as a result of the frustration felt by IrishDogs.ie members for the abandoned, homeless, and abused dogs, and other animals, in Ireland.
Many good people donate regularly to Rescues local to them, but members of IrishDogs.ie felt it would be more beneficial to pool our contributions and donate as a group, and so MIDS was born. A list was compiled of Rescues, Shelters, Sanctuaries and Animal Welfare groups around the Republic of Ireland. This list works on basis of rotation, ie. when all Rescues on the list have received financial aid from MIDS, we go back to the first on the list and start again.
Members give what they can afford each month, be it €10 and less or €50 and more, and all contributions are lodged to the MIDS account. On the last day of the month, a cheque is sent to a Rescue/Shelter to help make a difference in the lives of misfortunate animals.
This is a very exciting project which YOU can be a part of!!!

June '09 Recipient - Pauline's Rescue
Pauline started rescuing dogs a few years ago. She is devoted to saving dogs and takes them into both her heart and her home.
She is aided by a network of volunteers, both in the rescue and around the country. The volunteers around the country help her out by performing home checks for families wishing to adopt one of her rescued dogs. The volunteers in the rescue help with the day to day jobs of caring for the dogs.
Donations and adoption fees are used to help feed, vaccinate, and care for the dogs in the rescue. She receives no other funding.
Each dog in her care gets the love, care and attention that they deserve and need after coming from where ever they have - the streets, abandoned, or even from the pound. She knows each dog individually, its personality, quirks, likes and dislikes and uses this information to match each dog to the home that is best for them.
Pauline only homes to places where the dog will have some company during the day; e.g. from another dog or a home where someone works short hours.0 commentaires 167 jours

MAY '09 RECIPIENT - FRIENDS OF ANIMALS RESCUE CENTRE
Friends of Animals was founded in April 1995 in response to an urgent local need for somewhere to bring distressed animals and birds - from domestic, farm or wild situations.
They opened their shelter (in Mullingar, County Westmeath) with little more than a handful of caring people who were willing to help. A few communal houses were built for them by family and friends.
Between 1995 and 2005, they rescued and rehabilitated almost 4,700 animals, mostly dogs, and were instrumental in assisting local Gardai prosecute three cruelty cases. (I don’t have up-to-date figures as the lady that updates the website has been ill for a while and I didn’t want to contact her unnecessarily.)
Most of their charges are dogs - but they dont live in cages - they live as a group, which works well with supervision. Occasionally, there might be a bully or a timid animal that has to be separated for safety.
They no longer handle cats on the premises due to the large number of dogs in residence. However, they refer all cats to local cat shelters.
Opening a shelter is a huge commitment and, after 14 years of struggling, they are still helping to rescue and rehome dogs every day. This is largely due to support from volunteers and sponsors.

APRIL '09 RECIPIENT - JAPANESE SPITZ RESCUE
In November 2007, Muireann Matthews started Japanese Spitz Rescue. Earlier that year, she had rescued two Japanese Spitz and wanted to help more but realised that she couldn’t keep them all! In the 16 months that Japanese Spitz has been operational, Muireann has rescued and re-homed 25 dogs
The aim of Japanese Spitz Rescue is to re-home unwanted and abandoned Japanese Spitz and Spitz crosses. It ensure that any Spitz or Spitz cross in need is re-homed in the most suitable and loving homes. All the dogs are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going to their new home and Japanese Spitz Rescue does not provide dogs for breeding purposes under any circumstances.
All adoptions are subject to a homevisit and an adoption fee of €150. This fee helps to cover the costs of neutering, vaccinating, microchipping and veterinary costs as well as helping in the continued rescue of more dogs in need.
Case Study
“Ellie” was surrendered into Ashtown Pound by her owner at the beginning of June 2008. She was the one of the worst cruelty and neglect cases the pound staff had seen. Japanese Spitz Rescue came forward and took Ellie to safety. She was quickly taken into veterinary care and was shaved so that skin scrapings could be taken and the sores on her body treated. She was also neutered to remove the cysts from her ovaries.
After only eight weeks of treatment and tlc, Ellie was unrecognisable. She is now living in a fabulous home with another Spitz for company.
10/06/09:
Unfortunately, Ellie- the 'study case' rescued by Japanese Spitz Rescue, has died.
Thanks to the rescue, Ellie was able to experience real love and care from humans in her last year....
R.I.P. Ellie.....

Caroline SIl y a 69 semainesHi Everyone
We have finally come up with a fundraising night in Aid of Friends of Animals Mullingar, the only thing is this is on Friday the 8th of August 2008, which gives us very short time to sell the tickets for the event. So if anyone can help in any way in selling tickets please let us know as soon as possible, email carolinekerry2007@hotmail.com or email either myself (Caroline) or Pio (see Moderator) through bebo mail or comments.
The Benefit night will be taking place in the Greville Arms Hotel on the 8th August 2008 and the Highway Man will be the entertainment on the night, please look at the site http://www.bebo.com/highwaymanire.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Alisa Rose for her outstanding help with this event, without Alisa none of this would have happened.
Again I know we dont have much time, but come on everybody.
Thanks
