Cruz is located upstairs in the Ministry Nightclub complex, at 90 Lichfield Street, just two blocks from Cathedral Square in the heart of the city.The club is located in one of the oldest surviving commercial buildings in Christchurch, dating to the 1860’s. Reopened as the city’s only purpose-built gay venue in late 2003, Cruz was 18 months in the making, while derelict warehouse space was transformed into the bright and airy space that it is today. In the course of the transformation, many timbers that were salvaged from old goods lifts and industrial fittings were recycled into the structure of the bar and the various bar leaners. Original hardwood floors were retained or uplifted and relaid where necessary. Special nights at Cruz are always listed in our events section, and photos from past events are also here on the site for you to browse through
