yeah, i'd like to be a monk too, but then i also want love, sex, kids etc...it's quite disturbing...i know i could go either way, and both ways scare me; and in reality i think i'm an unsatisfactory combination of both. -fr

so here's the children's story from sunday: a man wants to join a buddhist monestary, but he is very rich and has never had to work or be good at anything. so the abbott asks him what he can do, nd he says he can play chess. so that abbott calls a monk and says they must play chess and whoever loses will lose his head. so the man plays for his life nad concentrates very hard, the sweat trickling down his neck, and eventually realises he is winning. at first he feels a wave of relief, but then he sees the poor monk opposite him sweating, and feels badly that this monk will die. so he starts to play badly, and starts to think that if he dies it will not be so bad. then the abbott knocks over the chess board, and says that the man has learned the only two things he needs to know: concentration and compassion. and that is all.

hey, you get my dodgy bebo luv for today; and everyday sorry the weekend didn't work out; ran out of credit early on, and saturday got demolished: had the pleasure of going to the national gallary with american supreme court justice ruth bader ginsberg the service on sunday was very nice. partially about trying not to be envious. trying ot work on that. -fr

yeah totally for real - the blood in the water match at the sydney olypics, 1956! it was literally 6 weeks after the russians invaded hugary. and even better, the audience was packed with 20,000 russian and hungarian expats; they had to bring in the army and cut short the awards ceremony to avoid a riot. then after winning gold for their country, the hugarians couldn't go home cus they were too scared, or took the opportunity to defect. basically what happened is the hungarian coach said they weren't allowed to let the russians score any goals; period. which is a pretty tough game plan. so when the game was 4-0 for hungary, the russians gave up and just started beating the hell out of them, which was how it got so bloody. -fr
