ABOUT THE DRINK

Never judge a book by its cover, or in this case, a drink by its colour.

The Long Island Iced Tea is probably one of the most potent cocktails around, if its made right.

To the naked eye, it seems innocent enough.

But by the last slurp, if you don't have a relaxed buzz going on, you have one hell of an alcohol tolerance.

The drink originated during the Prohibition era in the U.S. between 1919 and 1933.

The name fooled crusaders against the illegal selling of alcohol and was named after Long Island, just east of New York.

FAVOURITES

Most people don't mess with the perfect combo of white liquors.

Mixing white rum, vodka, gin, tequila and triple sec are what gives a Long Island its potent kick.

If you do want to switch it up a bit, try switching the Triple Sec for Blue Curacao, hence creating the Electric Iced Tea.

Don't be fooled by the fancy blue hue, it will still knock you on your butt.

HOW TO MAKE IT

There is the long way and the short way.

You can mix 1/2 oz each of gin, white rum, vodka, tequila and triple sec in a tall Collins glass, or for you rednecks, a beer mug.

Fill with ice, top with coke and a splash of lime juice to give it that Iced Tea look.

Garnish with a lemon and lime wedge and -- tadah! -- you have the perfect coma inducer.

If you want to take it easier, use Long Island mix that you can buy in the liquor store.

Then just add the coke and lime juice.
