A little bit about euphoniums
A euphonium (pronounced "you-phone-ee-um") is a tenor-voiced, conical-bore brass instrument that, to those not in the know, looks like a tuba. But it's smaller, and sounds a lot nicer. It's the second-lowest member of the saxhorn family (the saxhorn is a brass instrument created by Adolphe Sax, the guy who invented saxophones). The word "euphonium" comes from the Greek word "euphonos", meaning "sweet-voiced". The euphonium "takes the top line of the bass section", filling "an important melodic role" (wonderful what you can find on the internet). It is, quite simply, amazing; the best instrument in the world. If you don't agree, you either A) don't give a crap about music / musical instruments; B) play a woodwind instrument (in which case my lifelong ambition is to drown you out - unless you play the bari sax, the bass clarinet or the bassoon); or C) play the tuba and are jealous that we get to play more than 6 notes.
Things you might (not) want to know about me
I am Aisling. I am slightly eccentric, in more than one way. I remember extremely random shit but can't recall important things like my address and the answers to questions in tests. I LOVE music. Euphoniums are the best ever instruments, with trumpets a close second. I love Captain and Smallwyn!!!!!! They are my gods, and also my future husbands!!!!!! (Yes, I said husbands - we're all going to be the male in the relationship!) My sister Ciara wrecks my head regularly, especially by playing the bloody piccolo. She seems to think that I like it. Weird child. I DO NOT HAVE OCD, although that table in maths REALLY annoys me. HANA = STAAAALKER!!!!!! I love pie, especially chicken and ham pie. Cranberry juice = mmm. I have an odd habit of writing a lot, but most of what I scrawl down is a load of shite. And no, I don't think I'll ever get my book published. Please excuse my rambling - one of my many talents...

Baketball... DANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Smitherz = bball god!!!!!! Why do I get given out to for running into people and knocking them over? I'm TOLD to do it, honest!!!... And anyway, as the old saying goes, "No blood, no foul"!!!!!! :P Ah, good times, good times......

Playing my euphonium. Playing my trumpets (pocket and full-sized) too. (No, I'm not a music geek, I just tend to talk about it all the time, and whistle a lot - not purely to annoy Jen - and listen to a lot of classical or jazz stuff that most right-minded people wouldn't be seen dead listening to, and remember every single piece of music we've ever played - but not who composed it, Jen, that's a tad beyond me at times... BUT SO WHAT??? It makes me happy. And once I'm happy, everyone else can do what they like. Within reason, of course.) Also, when teasing Jen. And Claire. And my sis (KEEEEEWAAAAAH!!!!!! ... My lil Kiwi!!!!!!) Ahh, the simple pleasures of life... :P

Euphoniums (although if you hadn't guessed that much yet, you're more stupid than you look. And let's not get into that) ... meine trompete!!! (seriously, why did they swab it for explosives?!) ... band camp ... Canadian Brass... FLUGELHORN (hehe, still one of the best words EVER) ... Nigel Kennedy ... Jamie Cullum ... Music in general, really ... Bones ... Cranberry juice ... jazzberry (best ever colour - who the hell came up with the name?!)... trampoline! ... pineapple...

      5: Not being allowed to play in a jazz band or a full orchestra.
      4: Having to explain the differences between a baritone and a euphonium when you're really not sure yourself.
      3: Having to hit both really high notes and really low notes.
      2: Having to explain why your "tuba" is smaller than the rest.
      1: No one knows what the heck it is.

      Can I just say: next Wednesday is going to be waaaaay less stressful than the actual event of the LC. While everybody else will be panicking, banging their heads off the wall as they wait for exactly one second past nine so the results can be given out, I'll be on a bus to go and play music for an entire day. I'll probably actually forget about the results until lunch time, when I'll casually ring up and see how badly I did in Accounting. Why doesn't everybody busy themselves doing something they love so that they don't get stressed out? Much better than all the drama that'll be going on in schools across the country.





      And to all of you who will be part of the waiting for the handing-out of brown envelopes: good luck!

    • Even Crazier (BIG) Thing Called the LC

      So here you are, on a Sunday night, grinding your teeth and envying all those people with messages saying, "Woo, summer!" and the like as they either 1) aren't in 6th year, 2) weren't stupid enough to pick physics AND accounting as LC subjects, which happen to BOTH be on tomorrow and you aren't prepared for either of them or 3) have finished the LC. DAMN THOSE HAPPY PEOPLE!!! you think. And then realise that there's absolutely nothing you can do about it and oh well, you just have to get on with life.




      Although the random rant did help to calm you down a little..... :D
