- Getting harder to play or playing harder to get, or something.
- Información
- So make of this what you will, so many little shots in the dark. The same record, the same shoes and a smile that almost broke yr heart. Yeah, I'm all for local history and the three things I'll remember: her pasta was shit, she left with a CD still playing and you, you always put yr arms around me in yr sleep...
- To do:
- Find a better job, Leave Fife, meet a girl and be happy, make more music, buy more records, play, see and put on more gigs. This is my to do list, in order of priority.
- Wish list:
- Ghosts and Vodka UK tour dates, for American Football, Ganger, Braid and basically any band that I like and have broken up to reunite, unless they went bad. For Biffy to make a good 5th album, so I can pretend "Puzzle" doesn't exist. To have finished recording and have physical copies of Our Smallest Adventures' debut LP.
- Filmz:
- Die Hard Quadrilogy, Amelie, Lost in Translation, Dead Man's Shoes, Friday Night Lights, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Brick, Waking Life, Serenity. I really like indie films, things which are thought provoking and not just your bog standard sort of thing.
- Scared Of:
- flying insects and moths. I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to things like that.
- Musicz:
- Recently, lots of glo-fi: Small Black, Washed Out, Delorean, Gold Panda, Neon Indian, VEGA, Memory Tapes, Weird Tapes and very little else, including Secondsmile, Devil Sold His Soul. Lola Perrin, We Were Promised Jetpacks and Ólafur Arnalds. Have a look at www.last.fm/user/martwizzle if you're really that interested.
I also play in February Stars, Our Smallest Adventures and Anatomy Series, as one half of a two man acoustic band, Something Kinda Masculine and make programmed music as Songs in Transit. Please listen to and become fans of these music projects. Kthx. - Thinks I like.
- Good cups of tea, hot chocolate, ridiculous energy drink that is most likely corroding my insides and the occasional pint, hugs, good company, long nights spent discovering new music and rediscovering old. Cuddling up to someone. Holding hands. The good times shooting the shit and having generally awesome banter with my friends. Travelling the country on a budget, even if that means sitting on a packed bus for 10 hours. Music in general. Buying records. DIY ethics, not for profit gigs and the awesome people I associate these with (Maxi, Garvey and all the guys from Drive Carefully and This is Our Battlefield collectives). Thunder storms and listening to post-rock as they unfold.
- Things I do not like.
- People adding unnecessary "the"s to band names, the expectation that because I'm in my early 20's that I should have an idea of what I want to do with my life. Being in my early 20's and still not really knowing what I want to do with my life, other than my vague aspirations to leave Fife and move to Glasgow. Bad and expensive cups of tea or hot chocolate, typically from service stations or train stations. Being single. Being ignored completely by people I counted as friends. Lying awake at night, contemplating all this bullshit, until my mind finally switches off.

Because everyone knows they're great fun!
Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike through when someone gets them right
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING.
1. "Community saw the best in me, exchanging the common heart for the salt in the sea"
2. "Johnny, Johnny, get on with your life!"
3. "Let's go stand out on the bridge, where the railroad is..."
4. "The day to day is awful, the night was only hoping for!"
5. "I got this down right, I got this style tight"
6. "We walk out like lions short on prey..."
7. "YEAH, GREAT SKIES OF GREEN!"
8. "In the jungle, there's Lion, there's Monkey and Elephant."
9. "Now the lounge is full of farmers..."
10. "Are you my family? Can I stay with you a while?"
11. "Will you come and what will I say?"
12. "They're still there where we left them, the boy and the girl long forgotten"
13. "It's a gamble, double down or don't!"
14. "I'm up on a hill top where I, keep you in sight, my little toys
15. "The violence of our youngest child..."
16. "Here's to you cause you take what you give, make no excuses for the way we live"
17. "I can't stop, I can't stop yeah"
18. "Where's the love that shines, every single time I'm near you?"
19. "If I can't keep it, at least let me call it by name"
20. "Everybody's talkin' 'bout the stormy weather"Sonic Youth - Teen Age Riot (Jenny. I am impressed, didn't think you were a Sonic Youth fan, definite high five next time I see you)
21. "He said, laughin', killed the young dudes in the high boots"Alphabeat - Fascination (Kerrie)
22. "YEAH! This town is going under!"
23. "Please don't flow, so fast, you little mountain hum"
24. "A challenge that can't be won, is the one I want to face"February Stars - Victory (Bryan)
25. "So f a r, we've lost focus..."
I'll be very surprised if people get most of these.

The Wikipedia Band game
Yeah, do this if y'r bored.
Go on Wikipedia and click on the random article thing, the title of the article will be your band name, do it again for an album title and again however many times you can be bothered for song titles. It can produce some interesting results.
Here's mine:
European Route E33 - N.B Willey
1. IKobo
2. École du Carrefour
3. Barlest
4. Chiyorichō-itchōme Station
5. Milton Barnes
6. Markus Horison
7. Leichhardt
8. Wayaobu
9. Ceauşoaia River
10. Smithy Bridge
11. Stuart Chase

2008 in lists!
It's that time of year, my inner (and let's face it, outer) geek gets excited about compiling lists of my favourite things of the past 12 months. And they've been pretty good as regards to music.
Anyway, I'll just get straight on into it:
Top 5 albums:
5. Errors - It's Not Something, but it is Like Whatever
Awesome debut album from "post-electro"/"mathid house" outfit, also the only good thing George Pringle has ever and will ever be involved in.
4. Fuck Buttons - Street Horrrsing
Melodic noise seems like a contradiction of terms, but Street Horrrsing hits you like a punch in the face, then strokes it better after.
3. Johnny Foreigner - Waited Up Till It Was Light
There will always be some who say "the EP was better, wah wah wah" but this is a poppy, punchy gem of a record. 2009 will be the year of JoFo!
2. Remember Remember - S/T
A modern classic, fusing looped guitars, beautiful saxophone, violin and flugel horn amongst other instruments, with sampled items such as a can of Irn Bru, a packet of crisps, a hole punch and other things weird and wonderful. A close contender for record of the year, beaten only by...
1. The All New Adventures of Us - Best Loved Goodnight Tales
After 4 years of recording, several touted release dates, member departures, label issues and just about anything else you could care to throw at them, TANAOU finally released their debut album, at first on limited double 12" on their own Good Guys Wear Black label, then licensed to One Little Indian for CD. And it is a genuinely moving record, every bit worth the wait.
Top 5 gigs:
5. Jimmy Eat World and Stryofoam. Barrowlands, Glasgow.
A last minute spare ticket thanks to Bryan Sheach (legend), meant I got to see Jimmy Eat World live for the first time. I'd liked to have seen them play more from Clarity, but all the same they were very, very good.
4. Explosions in the Sky & Eluvium. Barrowlands, Glasgow.
An inspiring performance from both acts, Eluvium proving to be particularly spellbinding in my eyes (and to my ears) but seemed to be a bit over the heads of everyone else.
3. Johnny Foreigner, Dananananaykroyd, Jesus H. Foxx. Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh
An all round excellent night, Jesus H. Foxx bringing their Pavement-isms, experiencing Dana's Wall of Cuddles for the first time and singing the intro to "Cranes and Cranes and Cranes and Cranes" by JoFo, though having no photographic evidence because my camera's battery died.
2. My Bloody Valentine, Le Volume Courbe. Barrowlands, Glasgow.
The Barras seems to be a recurring theme this year. This was THE talked about reunion, the reunion that made me giddy with excitement, My Bloody Valentine, finally back. And it was incredible, though to be honest, not as amazing as I'd hoped. The crowd a bit livelier than I'd have liked and the "Holocaust" noise made me feel ill. However, MBV back together and playing shows. Cannot complain.
1. Stars of the Lid, Remember Remember. Stereo, Glasgow.
A simply wonderful experience, two men with their guitars, accompanied by a string trio, playing some of the most sublimely beautiful music my ears have ever taken in. Simply stunning, played in pitch black, with visuals projected onto the musicians. A real high point to the year.
Top 5 Festival performances:
5. Dirty Projectors, Triptych Alldayer at The Tramway, Glasgow.
My introduction to these, thanks to a reccomendation from my friend David, was left awestruck at the guitar work and vocal intensity on display. Wonderful stuff.
4. Slow Club, Offset Festival Sunday, Hainault Forest Country Park, London.
Boy/girl twee-pop, who were highly reccomended. A lot of fun to watch.
3. Frightened Rabbit, Triptych Alldayer at The Tramway, Glasgow.
This has truly been the year of the Rabbit, shown with this excellent performance, unhampered by a gear disaster, which meant we got a chance to hear and older gem in the form of Behave! Which was nice.
2. My Vitriol, Offset Festival Su0 comentarios 336 días
