  • BYP Motokana 2009

    When: Sunday 08 November 2009
    Time: Entry from 0930 - 1030 - Racing starts at 1030.
Where: U-Drive Sprint Cars, Elwood Road, Hastings (front paddock)

    Spectators: $2.00
Drivers: $15 (BYP Members), otherwise ($20)
    Limited 20 places.

    What is a motokana?
Think of this as a paddock hack. You go out in a car and negotiate your way around a track. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xicOH...

This year you can use your own car, or there will be a Skyline there for those who do not want to use their own car for an extra $5.00.

    Entry requirements:
    - Drivers must fill in an entry and liability form before going on the track.
    - Drivers must have their drivers licence (original, no copies).
    - Helmets are not required but you can wear one if you wish.
    - There are no prerequisites for vehicle entry.

    Rules:
    - Do not stray from the track.
    - Seatbelts must be worn at all times.
    - One driver and/or a passenger per car.
    - If you are shown a red flag, this will either be because 1 - what you are doing is dangerous; or 2 - you are destroying the track. If you see this flag, stop what you are doing and make your way to the pit.
    - Use common sense.

    Plan for the day:
    - Gates open 0930 and close at 1030 for racing to begin - make sure you have signed in and paid your fees.
    - 1030 racing begins, starting with a couple of warm-up laps each
    - Next we will have some driving tips on how to use your handbrake/counter steer at around 40km stopping at either a 90 or 180 degree angles.
    - Slalom - this was a lot of fun last year, hopefully our handbraking tips will come in handy
    - Next we will do what is done at Slipway in Wellington for up and coming drifters - it is called a cone licence. There are two cones spaced apart. You do two donuts around one cone, then two donuts around the second cone (opposite direction), then you do a figure 8 around both cones and then a donut around both cones.... all the time linking corners.
    - After that we will do a combination of all 3 tests.
    - If we have time we will hopefully be able to fit in a high-speed (like 50 or 60km lol) track.

    Any questions... ask me

  • Shaving my head

    Shaving my head
    hae all,

I put a question foward to a fellow member of NZCS today.

With the pink heels cruise comming up and the whole Charity thing going on i thought i would ask her the question of "if i could raise $1000 for the Breast cancer charity would she shave her head"??

Mumzy then reaplied: ummmmm ahhhhhh hmmmmm Yea i spose.

RIGHT so now i am out funderaising i need to raise $1000 before next saturday so that Mumzy (Lee Smith) can have her cold head for the cruise .

If i cannot raise the $1000 by the date all the money raise will be donated and Mumzy will still have hair but if the money is raise in time then the shaving will be happening on the 17 of this month at the Onekawa Aquatics centre at 1 PM.

For local people (Hawkesbay) wanting to donate i am out every friday night and normally in the Black honda civic (2GD4YU) or with Mumzy (4MYFTO). And for people that are not local but are very keen to help out and donate i will have a bank account setup on monday for this and will post the account details up then.

    Cheers guys and gals.

    Andy

  • Park it here, say board fans - HB Today, 25th September 2009

Jeffrey Farmer is 50 but he reckons he's down with the latest skateboard and BMX lingo used by his 16-year-old son Stephen and his mates.

Yesterday, Jeffrey's street-language skills and his knowledge of half-pipes, grinds, grabs and other skateboard tricks proved useful when he and his son attended a meeting about Hastings' first "Xtreme Park".

"A park like this would be good because it would keep them (youth) out of trouble - they only want somewhere to go rather than disturb people up town which is what is happening now," Mr Farmer said.

The Hastings dad, who said he's about to buy a long-board, was once a keen skateboarder when he grew up in Wanganui.

He had also been involved in many youth groups and reckoned he'd be among the first to try out the new Xtreme Park.

"Your bones might break now but you're never too old, it's always fun," he said.

Stephen, on the other hand, was a "biker", an interest which started when he was 12. It was about that time when he also began to lobby others for a new skate park in Hastings.

Since then he had been to talk to Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule and started a petition asking school mates at Karamu High School to support a call for a new park.

At yesterday's meeting, people were asked to write down their opinions on who should build the park, what it should have in it and whether they were interested in being part of a trust to run the park.

A map of Hastings city was put up on the wall and people were invited to place a sticker where they thought the park should be built.

The questions and ideas generated at the meeting put a smile on Stephen's face. He was glad to see some work on a park begin, he said.

The Xtreme Park would be used every day and he had some of his own ideas on where it should be.

"I think an area around Nelson Park would be good or there's a bit of land by the racecourse which could be used for the park."

His dad thought an area around the Hastings library would be ideal for the new park.

"That is an area which is well patrolled (by police) and it's in the middle of town," he said.

Hastings District Council has set aside $270,000 to build an Xtreme Park in the city. It would study the responses from yesterday's meeting so it can have a better idea about what people expect from the new park.
