Me, Myself, and I
J1 2010 COMING SOON!!!
The J1 Work & Travel Programme for 2010 is coming soon!!! Sign up to our 2010 J1 mailing list on www.j1online.ie for regular J1 updates, if you are thinking of heading off for a summer in the sun next year!

J1er's 2009 !Send in lots of photos and videos of yourselves in the States this summer and be in with a chance of winning big prizes!

Interested in spending a year in the States? Check out our big brother site (see other half) for details on our new 12 Month USA programme.
The Other Half Of Me
One Yr Usa
Jay-What?
The J-1 Summer Work and Travel Programme allows full-time third level students to travel to the USA and work there legally for up to four months, then stay in the US as tourists for an extra 30 days. Specially designed for Irish students, it's your chance to earn dollars, see the sights and live the good life, American-style. Base yourself in Houston, Hawaii or anywhere else you want and have the summer adventure of a lifetime!
Why J1?
There are loads of obvious reasons to head Stateside (great beaches, parties, adventure, parties, independence – and don’t forget the parties) but here’s the best one: In many of the US’s top destinations it almost never rains during the summer.
Free Stop-overs
J1ers- remember you're entitled to 2 free stop overs when you go on your J1 so be sure to ask about this when booking your flights! Make the most of your J1 experience and see as much of the States as you can... why not fly Dublin to New York- check out the big Apple, see the sights, shop until you drop before continuing onto hawaii for a summer of fun in the sun but dont go home without seeing what celebrities you can bump into on Hollywood's Boulevard in California! The possibilities are endless...
Jobs&Accommodation
For anyone who wants to start getting on top of the job search- upload your CV and check out our employer database-they have jobs available and are looking to hire staff now! If you have checked the database before and found nothing to suit you, don't give up hope we are constantly hearing from new employers who want to hire summer staff! We also have weblinks for jobs and accommodation that you can try-all on www.j1online.ie.

If you're looking for accomodation and it seems very expensive try to bear in mind that a one bedroom apartment will be a double bed or twin so you can easily fit two and ask about a pull out couch for another two people!! A one bedroom apartment will fit 4 no problem in a lot of cases...And all of a sudden the rent is cheaper!!
More Info
Got questions? Check out www.J1online.ie for info on jobs, housing, costs and more.

Most of you are heading off on your J1 this summer and busy preparing for the summer of a lifetime!
We have a work the World Event in USIT , 19/21 Aston Quay, Dublin 2 on Saturday the 23rd May. Tell any of your brothers, sisters, friends or family who may be interested in checking out their own travel options to come along.
Seminars will include:
12 Month USA Work Programme
Volunteer Programmes
Paid Teaching Abroad
Work in Australia and New Zealand.
Register Now. www.usit.ie
There are lots of great opportunities out there, so spread the word!!

  • Register with Sevis!!!!

    Hey guys,

Hope you're all having a ball in the U.S of A and not missing us too much here at home! We just want to let you know that somewhere in between sunbathing, socialising and generally having the summer of your lives, it's really important that you find some time to register your living and working details with CIEE (your US sponsor).

We have gotten reports from CIEE and SEVIS in the States that J1-ers visas are being cancelled if they don't register their details with them in the designated 20 days they were given when their programme started.

Registering with SEVIS only takes a couple of minutes, and is easy and free to do, so if you haven't already, PLEASE call CIEE on 1-888-268-6245 (toll free and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) or go to www.mysevis.com. You will need your Work Authorisation Document which is stapled into your passport with you at the time of registering.

Don't worry if you haven't found a job in the designated 20 days. Once you let CIEE/SEVIS know your US address and the fact that you are actively looking for a job, you should be sorted. You can always update your account with SEVIS when you find a job or if you move house etc.

If you fail to register with SEVIS, your Visa will be cancelled and you will have to call CIEE immediately to have it re-instated and avoid getting in trouble, so please PLEASE PLEASE try to avoid this by registering with SEVIS in the 20 day time frame!!!
