As a youth he played for Parkwyddn A.F.C. in Eccles before being picked up by Manchester United. Simpson is a product of the Manchester United youth system, having come up through the ranks into the reserve squad in 2005. In early January 2006 he was sent on loan, along with 3 other United youths, to the Belgian second division club Royal Antwerp for the remainder of the season, to gain match experience.

Danny Simpson says there is no better confidence booster than earning the trust of Sir Alex Ferguson after the United manager handed the 20-year-old his first ever Champions League start.
The Salford-born defender replaced the rested Wes Brown at right-back during the Reds' 4-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday night.
He impressed throughout and almost nicked a goal midway through the second half, but saw his shot saved by Olexandr Shovkovskiy.
Simpson, who was joined by fellow starlets Gerard Pique and Jonny Evans in the squad, was in buoyant mood after the game and hopes his display will have done enough to earn him more opportunities in the near future.
"When the manager said 'You and Gerard are playing at the back with Nemanja [Vidic] and Patrice [Evra],' it was a hell of a compliment," revealed Simpson.
"He didn't even have to say anything to me - just, 'Go out there and do what you normally do.'
"It is everything to get a start. It gives you that confidence that he [Sir Alex] trusts you.
"The gaffer has always said if there is a young lad he will give them a chance and he proved that. After that he might feel, now that we are through, why not give me another game against better teams.
"For the likes of myself, Gerard and Jonny Evans it is looking good for the future."

Danny Simpson
Simpson made his debut appearance against South African team Kaizer Chiefs on July 18, 2006, which the Reds won 1-0. Manager Alex Ferguson claimed that Simpson looked "anything but a player making his first start for Manchester United". Simpson spent the first half of the 2006-07 season back on loan at Royal Antwerp and returned to Manchester United in January 2007. Soon afterwards he joined his team mate and friend, Jonny Evans, on loan at Sunderland.
Simpson signed a new contract with Manchester United in August 2007 that would keep him at the club until 2010. He made his first competitive appearance for United on September 26, 2007 in the 2-0 Carling Cup loss to Coventry City, and soon after made his Premier League debut on October 6, 2007 against Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford, coming on as a 30th minute substitute for the injured John O'Shea. He set up the fourth goal with a well flighted cross for Wayne Rooney.[1] The match ended with a 4-0 win to United.[1] His European debut came on 23rd October 2007 when he came on as a subsitute against Dynamo Kiev.
Danny attended Canon William high school in Salford (now known as Salford City Academy).
