- Born Belfast, 1951. Founded Galway's annual Cúirt festival in 1986. Founder/Manager of the Western Writers' Centre - Ionad Scríbhneoiri Chaitlin Maud, Galway. Have published four novels, nine collections of poetry and a short story collection, 'Keeping The Night Watch. Most recent poetry is 'The Oracle Room' (Cinnamon Poetry, Wales, 2007) and most recent novel is 'The Neon Rose,' (bluechrome UK). Have translated French poetry and am currently publishing poems of my own in French in literary publications in France. With the group 'Parsons Hat,' produced two albums on the Clo Iar-Chonnachta label and have produced two solo albums, 'Get You,' and 'Local Papers.' A book reviewer, chiefly of poetry; though enjoy especially translating new work from French, prose or poetry. Works as Director of the Galway-based Western Writers' Centre (www.twwc.ie). Has little time for the competitive cultural 'rat-race' of Galway City, where, he says, poets are invented, and invent themselves, overnight.
