- Bullying is abuse or intimidation by a person or persons against another or others. It can be psychological, verbal or physical. It involves an imbalance of power in which the powerful attack the powerless and occurs over time rather than being a single act. Bullying behaviour includes:
Physical: assault (pushing, kicking, hitting, punching, etc) or threats of violence.
Verbal: name calling/insulting others/sarcasm/lying about others/spreading malicious rumours/persistent teasing.
Emotional: ignoring/excluding/tormenting
/ridiculing/deliberately embarrassing or humiliating others/making people feel different or like an outsider.
Racist: using racial taunts/gestures/graffiti etc.
Bullying causes pain and distress and, on average 16 SUICIDES A YEAR . If you or someone you know is being bullied, don't keep it to yourself - TELL SOMEONE.
We give moral support but not advice, so see the links if you need help. Please don't name names on this site - keep it anonymous.

Your School : If you reported that you were being bullied, how helpful were they?
- Teachers/Head took it seriously and did best to sort it, whether it worked or not.
- Teachers talked to bullies but no other action. I was still unsupported and alone.
- Teachers said it might be a "difference in perceptions" & would do nothing without proof.
- Teachers followed school anti-bullying policy. I was well supported by all teachers.
- Teachers believed bullies when they said they hadn't done anything & suspected I was lying.
-
If you used to be bullied, but it has now stopped, can you tell us why:
- Told parents/teachers and they sorted it
- Sorted it myself by standing up to the bullies
- Told other friends and they sorted it
- Moved form/class to get away from bullies
- Changed school to get away from bullies
-

Quotes about Bullying
"There is a light at the end of the tunnel but first you'll have to find the light switch and change the bulb before switching it on yourself. No problem, as targets of bullying are picked on for their competence and abilities."
Tim Field, author of "Bullycide: Death at Playtime"
"Whilst accidents and assaults injure and kill people quickly and spectacularly, bullying and consequent prolonged negative stress injure and kill people slowly and secretively. The outcome, though, is the same."
Tim Field, author of "Bullycide: Death at Playtime"
What would be your first act as world leader?
"To introduce a drug that everyone who was a bully had to take to stop them bullying other people. I'd put such a drug in the water now."
Comedian Jo Brand interviewed in Radio Times, December 1999:
"I just want the bullying to stop. That is all I ever wanted. I used to love going to school. Now I hate it."
(9-year-old Verity Ward quoted in the Sunday Telegraph, 12 March 2000)

How girls are getting away with bullying
How girls are getting away with bullying
From The Sunderland Daily Echo
BOYS fight with their fists, girls with their tongues.
Val Besag's view of girls and their bullying is one familiar to many.
For girls, her evidence suggests, are cunning, manipulative and know how to use their power.
Dr Besag, a world expert on bullying, is a former primary school teacher and educational psychologist based in the North East.
She has found that bullying among girls is mostly verbal and isolating, with longer-term and more devastating consequences.
"Bitching" is one way of describing it, "sneaking" another and it becomes part of their everyday dialogue, shifting to a persistent campaign of bullying.
Dr Besag, a guest speaker at today's conference hosted by Durham County Council's Anti-Bullying Service, said: "The majority of girls' bullying is the covert, hidden stuff, the texts, the gossiping, the social exclusion.
"Boys use this behaviour as well, but they tend to use feet and fists, as well. Girls don't tend to use that much violence, but a small percentage are becoming more aggressive."
Girls know where each others' weaknesses lie, particularly, as Dr Besag believes, because they are more likely to share their innermost secrets.
Dr Besag said: "Girls' bullying is not worse, in a simplistic sense, but it is their friendships that make it worse.
"Girls' friendships are very much closer, their friends are more important. When they fall out it is like losing a lover, they are so enmeshed in their friendships, so it is very difficult finding out what's going on.
"First it is treated as a cat fight or girls falling out, but it is in the manipulating of friendships that girls manifest their power.
"They play power games through their friendships. Boys like to stand in the front of a crowd and show off, for entertainment and kudos. Boys like an audience, to be seen doing this in public.
"Girls manipulate friendships. When there is a fallout they take all their friends away, isolate a girl, so they are very vulnerable, like a hostage. Girls don't have to touch anyone and the impact can be more long lasting.
"Teachers don't necessarily recognise it for what it is – bullying – and girls are getting away with it."
From Jade Goody's behaviour towards Shilpa Shetty on Big Brother to Anne Robinson rubbishing her contestants on The Weakest Link, the examples are out there in our mainstream culture.
Magazines, like Heat and Star, also encourage the tendency to trash celebrities for being too fat or too thin.
According to figures obtained by the NSPCC, two-thirds of teenage girls admitted to bullying others, even though 91 per cent are bullied themselves. Nearly half of all victims had received threatening texts or emails.
Nathalie Noret, a cyber bullying expert from York, says text is by far the most popular method, but added that internet social networks like MySpace or Bebo, were becoming an increasingly popular forum for bullies, particularly girls.
She said: "What's interesting with cyber bullying and can be potentially quite scary is that once something is created, it can be sent around the world, with everyone having access to it and remains there forever."
MSN Messenger is another target for bullying girls.
Ms Noret said: "Girls tend to share passwords and if they fall out, someone can then hack into their email account, pretend to be their victim and go on to send abusive messages to friends, so that they become even more isolated."
Dr Besag, who spent 16 months researching her book Understanding Girls' Friendships, Fights and Feuds, added that this kind of fallout was particularly common among young girls.
She said: "In many cases, girls find they are being bullied by someone who just days earlier was their best friend.
"When that happens, often the rest of the friendship group will follow the bully, leaving the victim suddenly isolated.
"It's so common. Speak t2 komentarze 759 dni

Im fed up with Bullies making my life miserable they think its funny but its not Its pathetic that they get enjoyment by making my life a living hell
Ive tried almost everything to stop the bullying but its never gone away its like they won't stop until I'm dead. I've thought about suicide Ive even tried it but I was to weak to go through with it and I figured if I did go through wiith suicide the bullies would have won so Im still fighting against my suicidal thoughts.
I have no way of stopping the bullying its completely hopeless. Its affecting me in everyday life. I suffer from depression,Im really insecure and its affecting my school work I can't concentrate I can't think. I feel worthless because of the horrible things they say to me at first it didnt bother me but hearing it almost everyday makes me believe it. I cry alot the pain never ends I have no way of stopping it and its killing me. This group is awesome its good to know that I'm not the only 1 who is getting bullied. -

bullying and depression: possibly two of the worst things a human can endure.
worst of all... there's no physical cure. beating them relies simply on the person's willpower and determination to better the others
so a message to all bullies: you will not win.
message to the bullied: keep fighting, be strong, gather those who love you around you, and never give up. you're better people, and never forget that

Hey everyone! I love this site! Its great! Cuz it helps people who r bein bullied atm. I saw the suicide video recently, and i couldnt see 1 thing wrong with those guys who killed themselves. I was on the brink once, self harming, and thinking about ODing. Ive hated most of my school life, from year 2, right up until year 13, cuz it was ruined by girls and boys. Girls being catty and bitchy, and making fun of my clothes, and the way i acted and the way i walked. But boys have been the worst. Calling me names like spastic cuz i was too bouncy, or slut cuz they were jealous of me. Some guy threatened to bring in a knife and knife me and my best friend, one of them nearly pushed me out infront of a lorry, and one main gang seemed to make it their objection every day to trip me up or slam a door in my face. I know how everyone out there that gets bullied feels. Please please please tell a trusted adult! It wont make it worse! I told someone and it stopped. God bless and take care xxx

Bullying is a terrible thing.
I was bullied for years. It got so bad, I had things stolen out my drawer in the junior school.
Since I started college, I have heard some truly awful tales of bullying.
One of my friends was even threatened with her life for leaving. This terrified her and she begged me not to tell anyone.
Have some love. -

For anyone in the same position : the bullying might stop - but all your feelings about it are still going to be there.... you should talk to someone about how you feel and not bottle it up - then you can move on from it. -
