- Welcome to the Danila Dilba Youth Service (DDYS). We are one of a number of services that belong to the Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS).
The Youth Service started in 2004 and moved to Palmerston (NT) in May 2005. The office and rec centre are located behind the Gray shops in what used to be the old Palmerston Bakery.
Our service is activities-focused to maximise the involvement of young people.
We developed this page for a number of reasons but mainly as a way of sharing info with young people about Youth Service programs as well as news of upcoming events and activities.
Feel free to leave a comment, suggestion or any other feedback. How do you think we can support Indigenous young people better? What kinds of activities and events would you like to see us do more of? What are the most important issues for Indigenous youth in Palmerston?
We hope you enjoy ...

- Our target group are Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander youth from 10 to 20 years of age and who live in the Palmerston area.
Most of what we do eg. programs, projects, activities etc. is aimed at meeting the needs of this group however there are times when we will get involved in activities that include young people outside of our target group. - SuPpOrT & aSsIsTaNcE ...
- We can provide support and assistance in lots of ways - one on one or in a group. If it will help, we can put youth in touch with other DDHS services including the medical clinics (both Darwin and Palmerston), Men's Clinic (Darwin), the Emotional & Social Well Being Centre (Malak) and much more.
- PrOjEcT pAy ChEcK (pPc) ...
- This program is for Indigenous young people aged from 15-24 years. PPC is on from 9am to 12pm every Monday and Thursday.
Extra support and assistance can be provided outside of these times and just need to be organised with DDYS staff. - InDiGeNoUs YoUtH aDvIsOrY cOmMiTtEe (IyAc) ...
- There are twelve (12) Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people who were elected to the IYAC by other local youth. Meetings are held at least 4 times a year or more if needed. IYAC members get involved in lots of activities that help to develop skills, confidence and leadership.
The IYAC provides input and advice on ways the Youth Service can be improved to better meet the needs of local Indigenous young people. - DrOp In ...
- Young people can "drop in" to the Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.
We are also trialing a late Drop In (to 8pm) so watch out for those dates.
We have 2 pool tables, Nintendo Wii, PS2, XBOX, XBOX 360, big screen TV, DVDs, stereo, portable basketball hoop and computers (with internet access). Young people under the age of 18 must have a permission form signed by a parent/carer to use the internet.
Drop In is fully supervised by DDYS staff at all times. - AdUlT & cHiLdReN's HeAlTh ChEcKs ...
- We are always encouraging young people to have regular health checks. The Adult Health Checks are for people aged 15 years or older. The Children's Health Checks are for 14 years and younger.
We can support youth by making the appointment, providing transport and going along if needed. - CoNtAcT uS ...

Palmerston Youth Issues
Hi Everyone,
We're currently looking at ways to resolve some of the recent youth-related issues in Palmerston.
We have a number of really good ideas and are working on how we can put them into action but in the meantime, we'd love feedback from any Palmerston or Darwin mob that may have ideas or suggestions to contribute.
Most of us/you mob either live in Palmerston or have family living here so your opinions are relevant. Feel free to post your comments in this Blog or on our main page. Alternatively, you can call us on 8932 3166.
We don't want to know who or what, we just want to hear what ideas/suggestions you have that service providers (like us) can use to help keep our youth on track.
This is a community issue and it needs a whole of community approach so let's see what we can come up with.
If you're not aware of what's been happening, click on the links below for more info:

Hey!!
I found out about your service and I'm impressed!!
I was wandering If I could be part of the Youth advisory commitee? I'm keen to learn more and meet new people as I'm from Sydney and I'm a Youth Coordinator for St Vinnes. Oh and I love photography! I would like to do a youth thing with photography.
Have a good weekend.

Hey guys it's HORA from the PUSH Crew, and i've got an idea you might be interested in. I've got some people on board already and would really like to have your organisation involved .
It's a youth/community event that involves Skateboarding, BMX, 3 on 3
Basketball and a live Music stage. Gonna be a big day with an ex pro skater possibly judging the event. I have 1 sponsor thus far and my group PUSH has our own money to spend as well.
I'm in talks with some local business's for prizes with Steve from Curved Aira, Palmerston already throwing some vouchers in and Stickee Bizz and the DARWIN TATTOO STUDIO are going to throw a mean design on a couple of boards that PUSH has already purchased.
This event is about bringing the community in to see the talent that skates/rides/plays and performs right here every day!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please contact me if you would like to be involved or know someone who does and we can organise a chat.
