- In the south they tell a tale...of 3 men with a penchant for music with enough weight to crush mountains, with the melody of the wolven at a full moon, with the stomp of the mammoths of old & with a groove thirty miles wide. Some say its only a myth...that such things must not be spoken of...others claim to have witnessed it in the flesh...some never made it out alive......
We are a three piece southern groove metal band from Invercargill, New Zealand. Formed in mid 2005, been gigging relentlessly since mid 2006. Toured/shared the stage with the likes of Sinate, Dawn Of Azazel, 8 Foot Sativa & Tainted. Two south island tours & a national tour that took us from Invercargill to Auckland & back again under our belts. 2008 saw the release of our debut album 'Relentless, Primal Being' featuring all the bands material up untill that point. We've already started work on our next release due out whenever we are finished. Come see us at a show.

Recording/General Update
Hey all,
Just letting everyone know whats happening in the Osmium camp.
Recording hasn't exactly turned out exactly as planned. Weej isn't happy with all his drum tracks so we're gonna have to re-record some songs. There are 4 songs that i don't think need redoing so I think they'll stay as they are.
Basically i'm gonna go out there and say don't expect anything any time soon. Wanna take our time with this album. Make sure its all as perfect as it can be & so far its all sounding a decent step above 'Relentless, Primal Being' so i'm confident it'll be a decent chunk of chuggin' grooves.
I wanna do as much touring as possible but due to the other two guys in the band we have limited schedules to work with. Hopefully doing a short 4 day South Island tour in October with Made In China & also at some stage a couple of weekends in the North Island again at some stage too.
Can't guarantee anything.
We've got some pretty cool shows coming up.
We're playing a couple of shows with out good friends Intergracia from Wellington on their South Island Tour - We're doing the 9th, 10th & 11th of July in Oamaru & a couple of shows in Christchurch. Quite a bit further down the track on the 26th of September we're playing in Invercargill @ Saints & Sinners with our good friends Left Or Right along with a great slew of bands for Left Or Rights long awaited cd release. Check these shows out if you can. Guaranteed to be entertained.

Album review from NZ Musician Magazine
Osmium, n. (Greek, osme, a smell) a rare metal of the platinum group, the oxide of which has a disagreeable smell... From deep in the south (Invercargill to be exact), comes this powerful metal beast with their debut album. And what a beast it is! They rock it like early Metallica, Pantera a bit of Iron Maiden, with a vocal that’s a cross between Kyuss and James Hetfield. There’s also Black Sabbath moments, along with a plethora of others. Not to say they have nothing original to offer, because they do. Formed in mid-2005, there have been many line-up changes. A four-piece for this album, guitarist Ngarewa Reid has since left to pursue music at Otago Uni, so the band now comprises Cameron Leslie on vocals and rhythm guitar, Doug Heath on bass and Jarryd Tuhou (but actually William Powell) on drums. They completed their first national tour this year, having played down south extensively, as well as supported many metal bands. Leslie is the heart of the band, contributing lyrics, engineering, mixing, mastering and production (along with Heath). There’s three instrumentals among nine tracks, including one dedicated to Dimebag Darrell (of Pantera) who was shot whilst playing live on stage by a crazed ‘fan’. If you’re into metal, this band is well worth checking out. While the vocals are a little weak and overall the production could be greatly improved, there’s more than enough here to get them noticed.

Recording/General Update
Just thought i'd better put up a new blog to update you all on whats happening in the Osmium camp these days...if you care..
We've done 3 gigs as a three piece now, the first one was a little bit rugged...but the other two were fine so i think we've decided to just carry on as a three piece unless someone just falls in our lap.
So we've been in the studio. We went in to record drum tracks for one song but things went so well we just recorded all 5 songs we've written since 'Relentless, Primal Being' we've been recording these songs with Daniel 'Chainsaw' Rogers @ S.I.T Studios & its all sounding really good. Its definately better sonically this time around, we've really worked on getting some massive sounds this time.
We've recorded 5 tracks which are:

- Weathered Will -
- Forever Damned -
- The Dark Poet -
We're going into the studio tonight to do bass tracks then Charlie is gonna take it back to Wellington & Mix it for us.
Instead of releasing these 5 songs as a ep we're gonna get Mike Holland of Made in China fame to come record some more songs with us in two weeks.
Nothing like necessity to get new songs in the set. So hopefully we'll have a couple of new songs on there aswell.
So yea, thats the deal.

Oh awesome! We'll sort ourselves out and start planning it a bit more. Do u think a lineup of four will be enough? Keeping in mind two of the bands wont be doing a particulary large one (4 songs)
What do u guys, us, rectal slaughter and maybe alphasintori + maybe osmium or something think about organising a good metal gig down at the musos club or wherever in the not so distant future? Only in planning stages at the moment but should be good nite if we plan it rite. Plus a good chance for us to get a gig in.

I'm not sure if it's possible, but you should try get the band "Absent T's" to play at the LoR album release. they're fuckin killer for highschool kids and need to be playing with bands similar in genre (Saw em play with alpha & ballpoint on friday -_-)
