Ja, o mnie i jeszcze raz ja: The Magnetic Fields are a New York-based music collective centered around Stephin Merritt and a host of collaborators, contributors, and guests. Albums released by Merritt under the name "The Magnetic Fields" usually consist of synth-pop music in a 1980s style underlying clever lyrics which are often heavily ironic.
The band was originally formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts by schoolmates Merritt and (percussionist/pianist) Claudia Gonson. While 1990's The Wayward Bus and 1991's Distant Plastic Trees (now most easily available together as a compilation) are sung by Susan Anway, all subsequent albums are principally sung by Merritt himself.

Quick Update: Magnetic Fields + Stephin Merritt

The new Magnetic Fields album is now planned for release in early 2008. The exact release date and album title will be announced shortly, as well as information on other Stephin Merritt projects. The band will probably do some US tour dates following the release, and when these are confirmed, they will be posted in the Calendar section of the website. Meanwhile, Stephin Merritt continues to work on developing several new projects in theater, including a stage adaptation of Neil Gaiman's children's book Coraline.
