TOP

First, I carefully drew the pattern for this individual's shape and I drape-fit the fabric. Then I stabilized it and embroidered around the sides and back with a spiffy free-form leaf pattern! After sewing it all together, I stitched and frayed the edges. I reinforced the armholes and bottom edge to prevent stretching. Then I decorated the sides with beads that I hand-painted to match.

SKIRT

I hand-dye the fabric to a sort of pumpkin/rust color. The fabric has a great drape and weight (I found a piece of the original fabric and I use it to find fabrics that are a perfect match) It has six panels that overlap. The edges are stitched and then frayed

BELT

It was leather that was hand-dyed, padded, embossed, painted, punched, and laced along the edges. The back laces closed. As you can see, it is decorated with an attractive, primitive design. There is a lot of handwork in this piece! On top of that, the shape had to be re-drawn to sit right on different individual's hips, which all have a different slope. There was velcro on the back to hold it in place at the top of the skirt.

BOOTS

Like the Warrior Princess Boots, I make these over a pair of athletic shoes. I make the uppers from tough, top grain cowhide. I put criss-cross laces running up both sides of the ankle.

SHOULDER GUARDS

Constructed of genuine leather "metal" details are cast polyurethane Authentic details patterned directly from screen-worn wardrobe brazed copper "squiggles" Interconnects with the breastplate and backpiece to form a torso armor unit

BREASTPLATE

I painstakingly sculpted this baby to look like beaten sheet copper. I make my final castings from tough, flexible polyurethane resin. Then I hand paint it with my special four layer paint formula to amazingly to simulate old copper. I use leather for the trim and fastening straps. This is seriously realistic!

BACKPIECE

This piece is molded straight from one of Xena's actual screen-used copper pieces for incredibly realistic detail. The material is a hard rubber - flexible and tough.

ARMBANDS

The bands are made from top quality dark brown leather, carefully color matched to the other warrior princess items that I make. The inside is lined with luxurious, soft deerskin. The armbands are rigged over a soft elastic loop that keeps them in place as your arm flexes. I assemble everything with antiqued rivets (in three different sizes!) The only difference between mine and the ones on TV is that the "metal" design is actually made from flexible polyurethane, like a very hard rubber. This is more comfortable, more durable, and less expensive than actual copper (the copper will actually bend, stretch, and crack with wear, which is why copper costume parts have to be replaced periodically). The sculpting and the paint job is so good that you really can't tell the difference, even up close.

GAUNTLETS

The "metal" part is not beaten copper at all, but it is a sculpture cast from flexible polyurethane (sort of a hard rubber.) The paint scheme is so realistic they will fool you even up close. The casting is taken from an actual Xena gauntlet used in the show.

DRESS

BOOTS

I start with a pair of athletic shoes and build full uppers and soles around them. I use top quality leather and hardware. The fronts lace up through antiqued eyelets. The backs feature faux laces from the ankle to the top. The soles have wrap-around covers with sole protectors on the bottoms. The result is a pair of completely custom fitted boots with authentic warrior princess style!

KNEE GUARDS

On the outside, they are covered with genuine cowhide and embossed with a lovely raised design. After assembling with antiqued rivets, the completed knee guards get a weathered paint treatment. One pair of knee guards has 70 individual pieces (that's a lot of cutting!), four types of fabric, and 100 rivets.
