Comedy Comedy
Hi all, 'tis that time of year again when you try and figure out whether the clocks go forward or backwards. Smartarsey people will tell you 'spring forward and fall back'. To be frank, I don't think I've ever sprung in any direction and I've fallen arse over tit more often than towards a singular point on the compass. Still it's misery and darkness and winter and talk of Christmas from now until - well Christmas I suppose. And let me be the first to say 'Yeah, I had a fairly quiet one'. Last year I experimented with telling people I had a fucked up crazy Christmas, shooting heroin into my left eyeball for the 12 days, but they looked at me like I was mad. People eh?
That's the kind of rambling preamble you come up with when you've just worked 3 overtime shifts. Ok deep breath, here's what's happening in the land of John. Tomorrow night, I'm supporting Maeve Higgins (of Naked Camera/Ray D'arcy fame) in Kenyon's, Nenagh, Co. Tip. Danny Dowling of New Zealand parish is also on the bill, should be a cracker.
Saturday night upstairs in the Roisin Dubh 8pm, sees the return of Comedy Comedy after an enforced absence. We've got Carol Tobin headlining. Carol played one of our first gigs as support and was so good we asked her to come back and headline. She is Ireland's finest female comedian according to The Evening Herald. Here's some backround:
Fresh from her success in the Dark Show at this year’s Kilkenny Cats Laughs where she performed with Rich Hall, Carol is a dark surreal comic who goes where many other comics have not gone before. She has supported Tommy Tiernan and Ardal O’Hanlon and has played the Edinburgh Comedy Festival for the past three years. She is a regular contributor with the Sunday Independent.
“Laugh. I nearly curled into the foetal position and thought of a happy place.”
The Irish Times.
“My favourite ever Irish female comedian. She is unpredictably kooky and borderline psychotic.”
Olaf Tyaransen – The Evening Herald
Carol is supported by Giles Brody who absolutely rocked Campbells Tavern in Headford last week - no easy feat! He's smart, cerebral and intelligent.
I'm your host and MC and Compere.
Take it easy.

Comedy Comedy
Greetings dear friends. Bit of a complicated situation this weekend - basically, I'm MCing Comedy Comedy at the Roisin Dubh on Saturday night. It'll be great and all that but my mind will be elsewhere. As you might know I've a day job in a massive company here in Galway with a spectacularly rich sports and social club. The staff BBQ is on this Saturday and I can't make it cos of the gig. Not too bothered about that or at least I wasn't until they pulled my name out of a hat for a wee draw they're having. I'm down to the last 20 to win a Honda Civic hybrid worth 30 grand.
Apparently you have to be there to win the bloody thing so you may see me dashing off stage at any moment. It gets worse, I have to be in fancy dress because it's a themed party - the theme is Hollywood nights. Now before I knew this comedy gig was happening I hatched a plan with 8 friends to each wear one huge white plywood letter of the 'Hollywood' sign on our backs. I took 'H'. So now I have to perform the gig with my phone turned on, ready for the draw and an enormous 'H' on my back. If the draw takes place before 10pm I'll have to leg it across town, running the risk of tripping and having a helicopter land on me.
So an already unpredictable gig has a delightful element of farce tacked on. Jolly japes eh?
The line up is as follows: I'm on for 10 mins then the delightful Heather LeRoy takes over followed by an increasingly nervous moi then our headline Willa White. Willa may be known to you as one of the Ballymun guys who first appeared on Des Bishop's 'Joy in the hood'. He is superb, he makes my sides hurt. The word amongst everyone who's seen him lately is that he is on fire. This will be a great night: 3 comedians for a tenner and if I win the car I'll drop everyone home... Doors are at 8pm, bring friends, text or email for discounts and freebies.
Beep beep,
JD

Comedy Comedy
Hiya all, it's Comedy Comedy time again. We're on upstairs in the Roisin Dubh this Saturday 21st June with John Lynn, Carol Tobin and myself. The show is from 8pm to 9.45 and it's only a tenner. The idea is that you can get some laughs in before you go out and get dragged to (insert tacky nightclub name) or some such hell hole and end up self harming.
If you do fancy staying around, then you must see(insert name of band who are probably fantastic but I'm too old to learn about any new music, I'll stick with what I know thank you very much) who are playing downstairs later on.
Tickets are available on the door or in advance from Redlight, Zhivago and http://www.roisindubh.net
See ya,

I'm ridiculously happy and sensible these days. You would not recognise me!!! About time I think I'm 25 in a few weeks!!
