- The University of Abertay Student Mentors are here to listen to you and help you with any problems you have either related or not related to university. These can be things like homesickness, loneliness and problems with coursework.
Add yourself as a fan so we can be in touch with anything that is going on.

The Abertay Peer Mentors are trialling an MSN service for the next 3 weeks from Monday 25th February. This enables you to be able to speak to the student mentors if you have any issues you want to talk about, or just a question you have.
They will be available every Monday at 4-6pm and on Thursdays 1-3pm for any queries you have. Their names will be displayed so you know who you are talking to, but there will be two mentors only present at the time. Remember, you will be talking to fellow students online and not any members of staff; they may have been in the same situation as you so can give you some advice from their experiences.Add them to your list with abertaymentors@hotmail.co.uk

Stress
Stress is caused by many factors, especially at this time of year with upcoming exams and all those coursework deadlines you need to meet.
A little bit of stress isn’t harmful; it can motivate you to get the work done on time. However too much stress can put your health at risk, so if it does all get too much for you and your wellbeing is affected seek professional help and see your GP.
-Here are some suggestions to combat stress:
Make sure you make time for yourself. Watch a movie or play some games to take your mind off the work for a little while.
If you’re stressed over coursework ask the lecturers or student academic support for help (studentacademicsupport@abertay.ac
.uk) - they can help with essay structuring and look over any coursework that you’ve already done. They can also give direction on where to go with the work.
If you’re worried about your finances , then speak to the finance department in the University
Prioritise what you need to do, and don’t take on unnecessary responsibilities. Also, if you have some work to get done for a society or something else, don’t feel you must shoulder all the burden; asking for and accepting help with the tasks will share the load, and things will get done quicker.
If you know you are going to have a week full of deadlines, prepare early. Don’t let everything pile up so make a plan for what needs done for when.
Manage your stress by noting what you need to get done from most stressful to least stressful, and try to get those high stress things done first.
Write down everything that is worrying you and how you are feeling. This can help you see clearly what needs done, and can help prevent bottling up your stress and anxieties.
Speak to your friends and flatmates if you are all stressed about the same thing.
If there are family worries or are stressed about other things besides University, then the counselling service is available (counselling@abertay.ac.uk) and we are also here too.

Homesickness
Everyone gets homesick at some point. Here are some suggestions that we found useful to help us stop feeling so homesick:
o Join the societies at university. There are a varied range of societies available at the university for you to join (you can find the full list at http://www.abertaystudents.com ), and there are also the sports teams. If you’re interested in something and there isn’t a society for it, start one up. This will get you into the social life that university has to offer.
o Socialise with people from the course you’re studying; go for lunch between classes, go to the union in the evenings for a drink or some pool.
o Bring something from home to put in your room like some photos or even your bedside lamp from there! It won’t make your room feel so sterile and makes it a bit more homely.
o Invite people from home to come to Dundee to visit you. This way you can see each other and you won’t feel so bad with having such a huge gap between normally seeing them only during the holidays.
o Get to know the city. There will be other people that aren’t from Dundee either in your flat or your course so explore it together. You’ll get to know Dundee then and places to go and what to do. The city won’t seem so strange to you then and could even start feeling like home number 2.
