About Me

Me, Myself, and I
This group is for one of the best Black Metal bands, Dimmu Borgir. Named after the volcanic formations in Iceland known as the Dimmuborgir, beleived to be the entrance to hell. The three founding members of Dimmu Borgir were Shagrath, Silenoz and Tjodalv. The band released the EP Inn I Evighetens Mørke, which sold-out in a few weeks, they proceeded to make "For All Tid". Odly, Shagrath was the drummer, Tjodalv was the guitarist and Silenoz was the singer. Stormblast followed, and many BM fans consider it their last "decent" album. But their a bunch of assholes. In 1997 the band released Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. The lyrics were in English and so the band were labelled sell-outs. From then on Dimmu Borgir have produced excellent works. Each album has it's own unique style and will continue to do so in future. HAIL

  • A Breif History of Dimmu Borgir :)

Dimmu Borgir was founded as a Melodic Black Metal band. The band was formed by Shagrath, Silenoz and Tjodalv. The bands first work was an EP entitled Inn I Evighetens Mørke, it sold-out in a matter of weeks. The band then went on to record their first studio album, For All Tid. Shagrath played drums, Tjodalv played Guitar and Silenoz sang, this would change later on though.

They then released "Stormblast" in 1996, it was praised by Black Metal fans, and is regarded as their last good record by some. This was also the last album that would be sung and have lyrics completly in Norweigen. The bands keyboard player Stian Aarstad left, due to the army. Their bassist Brynjard Tristan left aswell, and was replaced by Nagash. Stian returned in 1997 to work on Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. Due to having trouble attending tour dates and rehearsals he was fired. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was a huge success for the band, their sound became more symphonic, the songs were written and sang in English. Black Metal fans were enraged, and labelled the band "sell-outs". Most abandoned them.

After EDT the band recruited two new members Mustis, on keyboards and Astennu of rythem guitar. Shagrath could now concetrate soley on vocals. They released their next masterpiece Spiritual Black Dimensions in 1999, the first album to feature clean vocals from ICS Vortex (yet he was not an offical member). This was also the last album with Nagash.

ICS Vortex became a full-time member in 2000. They also got Old Mans Child's singer and guitarist Galder to play lead guitar. They released the magnificent Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia in 2001. This brought new fans, and the reviews had never been better. But many Black Metal fans turned sour, proclaimed the bands sell-out's, posers and a disgrace to Black Metal every where. The band stated they are not "commercially-oriented". This album was far less Anti-Christian than their previous work. Silenoz said that people were meant tp interpet the lyrics for themsleves. This was also Nick Barkers first album with the band.

In 2004 the band released the fantastic Death Cult Armageddon. The band spent most of their money on a full-sized Orchestra. The over-all sound sounded more Death Metal like, yet there were still obvious Black Metal sounds. This is what really pissed of the BM fans, the band became huge. And were now able to perform at Ozzfest. They sold around 10,000 copies in the US. Some Black Metal fans discarded them, and said they should never be considered Black Metal.

In 2005 they re-recorded Stormblast, Silenoz explained this was because they were unhappy with the original. Hellhammer (of mayhem) played drums on this album (as Nick Barker left). They released another song that was left of the original called Sorgens Kammer Dell II.

They relesed a Concept album this year on April 24. Hellhammer was the drummer on this album. Silenoz said he had spent the long break from 2005 to 07 writing up ideas for the story. While not as critcally acclaimed as PEM or DCA it was still and excellent album. Silenoz also said that the concept will continue for another two albums. I can't wait :D
