- À propos de moi
- Worthy cause is a Limerick based charity, currently staffed entirely by volunteers, which has two aims
1. To secure funding here in Ireland and ensure that every penny donated to charity is spent on the nominated cause with no deductions.
2. To have someone on the ground in the affected area to ascertain the needs and make sure the money is spent directly on whats needed.
Worthy Cause is currently looking at ways to secure funding that will alleviate the need for administration cost to be paid for by donations made by the public. We see it as one of the obligations that we have to maximise the amount of donated funds spent directly on those who need our help. This means we minimise or eliminate, admin costs here in Ireland and we put a structure in place abroad to avoid misappropriation by corrupt officials, bogus charity organisations etc.
- Shark dive For Charity!!
- The latest fundraising activity from Worthy Cause is here and we are now recruiting! You do a sponsored scuba dive with sharks on behalf of Worthy Cause. You need to raise a minimum of
€650, there is no maximum. The cost of the Shark Dive is €325. Our Charity receives a minimum of €325 and the maximum depends on how much you raise. Because you will get others to sponsor you, your Shark Dive will cost you nothing but your time. You will also have the satisfaction of helping a local charity. No qualifications or experience are required to enjoy the
adrenaline rush of shark diving so it’s open to just about everyone. Full training and all necessary equipment is provided by our partners at Deep Sea World Dives. Just send a mail on bebo or to worthycause@gmail.com for full information! - Great Friday Events
- Thanks to Great Friday Event Management for their donation of €3, 500 made at the Fall Prom Fundraiser.
Prom photo's are available to order by sending a bebo mail, with the numbers of the photo's (selcted from the albums below) at a price of a €4 donation to Worthy Cause. They are provided courtesy of John Kelly Photography. - Marathon Competition
- Worthy Cause is currently recruiting for the Dublin city Marathon and a series of worldwide marathons next year, for more information please email Mark at info@worthycauseireland.org

- Worthy Cause director Paula Shanahan, along with Tanya Prior and Fiona Begley took to the skies on the 1st of August as part of an attempt to set a new Irish record of 100 Tandem skydivers in the sky at the same time. Thanks to everyone who supported them! Log onto www.skydiveforcharity.ie to learn more about this and how to do a charity skydive in aid of Worthy Cause projects.
Watch this space to see how the €2, 598.50 they have raised will be spent! - Self Help Community Centre
- The Community Centre in Siem Reap, Cambodia was built in association with Worthy Cause Ireland last year. Funds we are currently seeking will be used to put the finishing touches on the Centre (solar panels to replace the car batteries being used to power lights, etc) and then to implement a new scholarship programme for children forced out of education by poverty and a pre school programme at the centre. Full proposals for these two new projects are available on request from info@worthycauseireland.org

Update
Just a quick update on the organisation over the last couple of months. The fall prom raised a staggering €3500 for our projects in Cambodia. Many thanks to all those who attended, everyone who donated spot prizes and those who helped with the selling of tickets and with the night itself it was a tremendous success and I hope a good night was had by all.
Fernhill's own Lisa McCormac did the Limerick ladies mini-marathon in our honour, many thanks to Lisa and all those who sponsored her. Lisa recorded her best time on the day so a large congratulations are in order for her.
Thanks to some large press coverage independent donations are starting to trickle in. Our bank account is finally up and running and details of that will be distributed in the near future.
Paperwork is still being sorted for our registration which will be underway as soon as possible now that the dust has settled after prom.
In Cambodia, Sambath has asked for our assistance with regard to the running costs of the Self-Help Community Centre so Worthy Cause has offered to pay the staff salaries and the rent of the land for a period of 6 months until the fish farm and organic garden can provide a sufficient income.
Our fundraising efforts are now at $5000 for the This Life Cambodia scholarship program which will see two teachers and 17 students return to education. Full details of this program are available by emailing info@worthycauseireland.org. A further $3850 is needed by the end of the year so if any of you have any fundraising ideas then please let us know?
As usual many thanks for all your support over the past months and I'll look forward to seeing you all at the next big fundraiser

Whats going on?
Hey guys, with Dave on the move abroad again i might as well give an update on whats going on here in Ireland. The paperwork is nearing completion to simultaneously register Worthy Cause as a business and apply for VAT exempt status thus giving it the only recognition available in Ireland as a charitable organisation. Once lodged the papers will take an absolute minimum of 8 weeks to clear with the tax office, we'll have all the relevant numbers up on site as soon as they become available.
Charity Skydivers Paula Shanahan, Tanya Prior and Fiona Begley will join the Skydive for charity Irish record attempt to get 100 tandem skydivers in the air in one day on August first. If you see them be sure and wish them luck. There are a number of other collectors on the move so be sure and help them out if you come accross them! As always we're continuosly recruiting for divers so if you feel the urge just drop a mail to worthycauseireland@gmail.com or call Mark on
085-7356868.
With the SHCC nearing completion Dave is busy traipsing the length and breadth of eastern Asia trying to find deserving but also trustworthy projects, as you all know one of the most important things about the work we do is making sure as much of the capital that we are entrusted with makes it to the people that need it- seems thats a bit harder than we thought but there are other organisations such as This Life Cambodia that we can build projects with and maximise the potential of every donation.
The Fall Prom is coming up on Friday the 3rd of October, tickets priced at €25 and are available from the usual sellers or from greatfriday@gmail.com. Log on to bebo.com/greatfriday for all the info.
That rounds up most of the info for the time being, thanks for reading,

SHCC
To all,
thanks so much to those who jumped a couple of weeks ago and heres the update on how your money is being spent. Worthy cause is supporting the building and renovation for a community centre in a rural village in Pouk district outside Siem Reap. The centre will cost $12500 to construct in its entirety. It will feature four classrooms that will provide Japanese, Spanish, English and Khmer lessons. The centre will also feature computer lessons, organic farming, fishing and lessons on the environment as well as traditional shadow puppeting, a skill that was almost lost during the Khmer Rouge regime. The parachute jumps and other funds were put into the school and the first $5000 has been handed over to This Life Cambodia, the administrators for the project. Last Sunday saw the land breaking ceremony. The villagers turned out to work for free to raise the level of the land (and avoid flooding in rainy season) using the soil that came out of the fish ponds. This Sunday coming the construction will begin on the concrete foundations and again the village community are providing free labour for the weekend. We hope to have the first phase built by the end of April and I will keep you all posted on developments. If anyone knows of anyone who can help sponsor the project or is interested in fundraising please contact me or Mark and we will forward you the project proposal. Also please check out the photos
yours
