Last Friday two heats were run back to back on the same night for the first time, Heat 5 was won by JJC, who becomes the first contestant playing Drum n Bass through to the final. While Heat 6 was the tightest yet with very little between all three DJs it was Steve-Rg who emerged victorious and booked his place in the final.
Rise, Stanton, Nu Skool DJ Academy and The DJ Factory’s search for Perth’s best new DJ continues this Friday, 28th August with Heat 7 that sees DJs Ivan Paul, Alan Ahern & Trenty-T go into battle for the last place in the final. Be there early to check them out and cheer them on. Doors open at 10pm, DJ battle commences at 10.30pm.
Straight after the competition Melbourne trance master Steve Strangis has the warmup duties leading up to our headliner voted the DJ Mag world #37 DJ and one of the UK’s brightest stars the legendary Lange. Door sales only 10pm – 6am. Rise members $5 before 11pm, $10 thereafter. Non-members $10 before 11pm, $20 thereafter.

After 10 Open Decks Sessions! We’ve decided to pick our favourite performers and put them against each other in a Back To Back Showdown.
Headlining the night will be Mono Lisa vs Philly Blunt. Regulars in and around the Perth breaks scene, Lisa and Philly have agreed to grace us with their presence for the first ever ODS! Back To Back Showdown
Philly Blunt can be seen regularly at places like The Beat Suite, Ambar, Destination?, Backbeat, and 1AM. As well as this, Philly runs a night called Bootleg with fellow DJ Ben Mac. Where they play nothing but bootlegs, mash-ups and white labels keeping the vibe funky and fun.
Mono Lisa has been nominated for the Best Female DJ award in the Perth Dance Music Awards since her debut and she won the award in 2007 and 2008. Lisa is also a member of the crew behind the recently launched ‘Force Majeure’ night at Ambar – a night dedicated to the harder sounds in breaks, tech and house.
Along with these 2 Perth Superstars, we will have resident emergency ODS! DJ and Crew FrankINFX vs MunkEE who played some big time breakbeats @ ODS! 5. Also an emergency DJ and the other half of the ODS! Crew, Ash B will be up against SeanDalirious, a regular on www.boost.fm and also a 2009 habitat DJ comp finalist.
Then there’s Alan Ahern from ODS! 3 and another 2009 Habitat competitor and an *ex Irish Rugby Player (*Note, claim that Alan is an ex Irish Rugby Player might be completely fabricated) against his fellow countryman Ivan Hallissy, performer at ODS! 4 and the Underground Showcase. We put these guys together because when they talk no one can understand em so we decided to let them communicate to us via their awesome DJ skillz.
Finally there’s Fidelity who played way way back in ODS! 1 and enlightened us with some very wet liquid DnB. We’ve paired him up with Affiliate who has appeared twice at ODS! As well as a regular at the Shakedown Sessions. We’re hoping these 2 will rinse and repeat with some Liquidy DnB goodness.
