- Sophie Lancaster and Robert Maltby, were brutally beaten for the way they looked while walking through Bacup’s Stubbylee Park.Sophie and Robert were kicked in the face and head so viciously cops couldn’t tell if they were male or female.
Both fell into comas after the assault in the early hours of Saturday August 11. Sophie never came round and died in hospital 13 days later in August 2007. Art studen Robert had multiple head and face injuries in the attack, had bleeding on the brain but survived.In April this year Harris, who was convicted of sophies murder after a trial, was sentenced to life, with a min of 18 yrs before he can apply for parole. Herbert, who pleaded guilty, was also sentenced to life, with a min of 16 yrs, 3 mths. The pair, the 3 others, were also given indeterminate sentences for public protection, after all 5 pleaded guilty to GBH with intent in relation to the attack on Robert. the Hulme bro's were ordered to serve min of 5 yrs, 10 mths and Mallet 4 yrs, 4 mths
