A GIRL known as Italy’s Maddie McCann has apparently been found on a Greek island, officials said yesterday.0 réponses 62 semaines
Denise Pipitone was four when she went missing while playing outside her home in 2004.
A tourist spotted the girl, now aged eight, on the holiday isle of Kos begging for money on a beach with a gypsy woman and a small boy.
She noticed the girl had a birthmark under her eye — like Denise — and spoke Italian.
Greek police spokesman Panayiotis Stathis said: “When she returned to Italy she saw a poster for a missing child, recognised the girl from Kos and told local police.”
Charges
Cops tracked down the gypsy, an Albanian, and arrested her.
She was charged with abducting a minor after being unable to prove the girl was her daughter.
A blood sample has been taken from the girl to establish her identity.
Mr Stathis said this may take up to ten days.
Denise’s mother Piera Maggio, shown pictures of the girl, said her eyes are similar to her daughter’s — but noted this was not the first time a girl looking like Denise had been spotted.

Maddie vanished from her holiday home in Praia da Luz, Portugal, just before her fourth birthday in May 2007.
A spokesman for parents Kate and Gerry said: “This proves a child can go missing and be found safe and well.”

The last time her grandma and grandpa saw her, she was moving out of their Lee Vista-area home with her mom.
The question is, where is Caylee Marie Anthony?
The 2-year-old girl hasn't been seen in more than a month, and her grandparents are worried. So are Orange County investigators.
Caylee's mother, Casey Marie Anthony, 22, told detectives she dropped Caylee off at a baby sitter's house June 9 but that the child was not there when she went to pick her up.
She never notified deputies.
She didn't tell her parents.
She did her own investigation, she told detectives. She went to clubs that the baby sitter, a woman she identified as Zenaida Gonzalez, is known to frequent. She said she was afraid her daughter would get hurt if authorities got involved because she had seen that happen in movies.
Early Wednesday, Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, insisted her daughter call the Sheriff's Office. Now, detectives are asking for the public's help in finding Caylee -- and Gonzalez, who authorities think may not even exist.
Investigators discovered that the apartment Casey Anthony said belonged to the baby sitter had been vacant for nearly five months.
"It's difficult to sort through what we've been told, given that what we've been given was false," said Sgt. John Allen of the sheriff's child-abuse unit.
Detectives are retracing Anthony's steps and trying to locate people who may have seen her with -- or without -- Caylee in the past month.
Cindy Anthony has been asking her own questions. Where is Caylee? she has asked her daughter. Can I see her?
Caylee is fine, Casey Anthony has replied. We're living together with friends.
"I've been asking my daughter for the last month to talk to Caylee," Cindy Anthony said. "All I want is Caylee."
Casey Anthony was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of child neglect, providing false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. She was being held late Wednesday without bail at the Orange County Jail.
When questioned by deputies, Anthony did not "show any obvious emotion as to the loss of her child. She did not cry or give any indication that she was legitimately worried about her child's safety," according to an arrest report. "She remained stoic and monotone during a majority of our contacts."
But her mother insists Anthony has been a good mom.
"And I could never dream she'd put her in harm's way," Cindy Anthony said.
Investigators are wading through a stack of information to try to come up with the truth. For instance:
*Allen, the child-abuse detective, said Anthony initially insisted she worked at Universal Studios and provided a phone extension and the name of her supervisor. All proved false, Allen said. In fact, Anthony was fired from the theme park in April 2006, according to the report.
*Anthony told investigators that Caylee's father is dead. They don't know whether that's true.
*Since Caylee's disappearance, two friends said Anthony told them her daughter was at theme parks or the beach with a nanny, according to investigators.
*Acquaintances describe Anthony as "a habitual liar" who stole checks and $700 from one woman, according to Anthony's arrest report. No charges have been filed.

An academic awarded a doctorate by Glasgow University for his thesis which described sex between adults and children as sometimes positive was criticised last night by child abuse experts.
Richard Yuill said his research, based on interviews with paedophiles and their victims, "challenged the assumption" that sexual relations between adults and under-16s were inherently abusive.
"The conclusions are that in such relationships I think you've got the good, the bad and the ugly, and that's where I stand on that," he said in the Times Higher Education Supplement.
But child abuse experts said his thesis would play into the hands of paedophiles who justified their actions by claiming their victims were willing participants.
Chris Harrison, a senior lecturer in social work at Warwick University said: "Whatever his intention, one of the things we know about sexual offenders is that they seize on this kind of thing and use it to support their position."
Mr Yuill, who was awarded his doctorate this week, interviewed paedophiles by describing himself as a "boylover" and said his work could challenge the law which states that children under 16 are incapable of giving informed consent to sex with adults.
"The law may well take that view," he said. "The only thing I'm reporting is that the research findings do not concur with that overall picture. A number of respondents would concur with the law ... but others found positive experiences or at least what I'd call neutral."
Glasgow University said last night the thesis did not represent its views but defended the decision to award the doctorate.
"This student and his research was the subject of a full investigation by senior university staff. His research material was examined by Strathclyde police who were satisfied that nothing of an illegal nature had taken place," it said.
But other academics criticised Mr Yuill's research.
Andrew Durham, author of the book Young Men Surviving Child Sexual Abuse said victims of abuse sometimes reported positive experiences, but this was often a result of manipulation by the abuser, or simply a coping mechanism.
"When I work with people who have been abused it often feels like you're talking to the abuser in the child's head," he said.
Natalie Cronin, head of policy at the NSPCC, said the suggestion that the research could result in a change in the law was unacceptable.
"The age of consent sends a clear message to adults and young people that sexual intercourse and sexual activity under 16 is wrong in law. This is the age at which young people can give sufficiently mature and informed consent to sex. The NSPCC does not agree with the introduction of a lower age of consent," she said.
Mr Yuill said his research included "a lot of interviews with a lot of different groups" including victims of abuse who reported only extremely negative experiences.
Liz Kelly, professor of sexualised violence at London Metropolitan University, said: "Within its own terms the thesis may be fine but that is not the same question as whether its contents are strong enough to carry such big claims as that made with respect to the age of consent.
"A lot of young men and almost all young women in our study who had intercourse with an adult when they were a child regarded it negatively."

A PAEDOPHILE aged 22 was behind bars last night after a judge heard he donned school uniform to enrol at a comprehensive — and joined kids of FOURTEEN in class.
Twisted James Chester fooled teachers into believing he was a boy for three weeks before he was rumbled and given the boot.
But cops took no action and he even tried to get into a SECOND school — before directing his evil lust at a girl of 13.
The pervert continued to wear school uniform as he preyed on her for five months, posing as a 16-year-old.
Her churchgoing family, who had no idea he was really an adult, regularly invited him round to have his dinner.
Vile Chester also joined them at Sunday services.
His true age only emerged when he persuaded the naive youngster to run away with him, sparking a nationwide search.
Dangerous
Chester took her to Northern Ireland where he was arrested three days later.
He admitted having sex with the girl and abducting her.
Yesterday — as he was remanded in custody for psychiatric reports — his victim’s dad said: “I hope he gets locked away for a long time.
“He turned up at our home wearing uniform and saying he went to school in Chichester, West Sussex.
“We all thought he was a schoolboy. My daughter had no idea he was an adult until she was interviewed by police. He went to extraordinary lengths to groom her.”
Chester was 19 when he doctored his birth certificate to enrol at St Edmund’s Catholic School in Portsmouth.
He claimed to be 16 — but got himself put in classes with Year Ten pupils aged 14 by pretending he needed to catch up on missed lessons.
It was three weeks before suspicious officials reported him to police. No charges were brought — and the following year he tried to get into City of Portsmouth Boys School at the An alert admissions officer foiled him — and for the second time warnings were issued to all heads. The 13-year-old was a pupil at a different school. She was described by her dad as being “angry and disgusted”.
Portsmouth Crown Court heard that after the couple were found Chester skipped bail and fled abroad. He was on the run for five months before he was arrested in Doncaster, South Yorks.
He will be sentenced on September 9. School admissions procedures have since been tightened.

Amy Fitzpatrick, 16, has not been seen since the evening of New Years Day, when she left her friends home in the tourist resort of Riviera del Sol, on the Costa del Sol. She left her friends house to walk the 10 - minute walk to her house, at around 10pm on the 1st January 2008.
