- this is a page for terrifying monster; The Groke
She first appears in the sixth episode of the moomins (cartoon not the fuzzy felt ones) were she it after the visitors of the moomins; thingumy and bob. The groke appears in several other episodes following this, including the episode " christmas is coming" were she puts out the moomins fire by standing upon it. since this episode the groke can be seen as more of a misunderstood character who is just lonely. However, she is still a terrifying creature and is preceded by a cold chill to anyone in the near area and can be heard growling or muttering, (depending on the language) she is also heard alongside frightening music, which is sometimes, a slow bump bump and then a slightly higher tink, or it may be a slightly lumbering song, almost comical, but with scary elements. (this particular song is also used with hattyfatteners) the final is the music that is seen as the groke's trademark and most used song, a high pitched grinding sound.

Different names for the groke.
Finnish: the groke is known as "Mörkö" which is actually taken from finnish legends about a winter monster that brings despair, kinda like dementors in harry potter, in fact, J.K. rowling probably got the inspiration for them from the groke.
Japan:"Buka" this has the same sort of meaning as the above, but i think that its more of a demon/spirit sort of thing.
Swedish: "Mårran" this i think is also a Demon, but im not quite sure.
Norway: "Hufsa" this is almost exactly the same as the Finnish idea of the winter monster.
Mexico/Spain: "La Coca" this is much the same idea as the mexican legends about "Chupacabra", the unknown animal that supposedly kills goats and livestock.
The English: Groke (obviously) which according to wiki (which i actually needed to find out the british meaning, unlike the other languages), is a possibly representation of winter depression and a feeling of hopelessness.
