Lachryma: Modern Songs of Lament
Lachryma: Modern Songs of Lament has just put out its Fall 2007 issue, including a story of mine called "To Deceive the Moon" which is set in Spain and is dedicated to Federico Garcia Lorca. It's an exciting moment for me because I've never published a work of original fiction before. The other submissions are also great with some fantastic poetry and short stories. If you like writing that is sad and beautiful, I would definitely check it out at: http://stores.lachryma.com/Detail.bo...0 Comments 727 days

Photo Album
Bebo is now my new guilty, guilty pleasure. When I should have been writing, I was busy searching the web for images of artists and thinkers who rocked my world when I first discovered them. My life would have been excruciatingly dull without them, so I think of this as my way of saying thank you, I love you, I wish I could have been you! Please feel free to have a look, leave a comment, or ask a question.0 Comments 793 days

The Literary Life
Most of my time is spent at the computer either translating or writing. This summer I worked with a friend of mine translating his introduction to a bilingual anthology that will be put out by Oxford University Press titled "Five Hundred Years of Latin American Poetry". If anyone is interested it should be in a library near you sometime this year. For the true lover of Latin American poetry, it can be bought at the usual places.
I also have a story coming out in a publication called Lachryma: Modern Songs of Lament. I have never published a work of fiction, so I am very excited. The story is dedicated to the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca, whose plays I love, especially Dona Flor. I even received $10.00 payment for it, which I will use to buy myself a congratulory glass of Amontillado. If any of my friends ever get a chance to read the story, they will know why.
The next year will be spent working on a work of historical fiction set in Spain during the 15th and 16th centuries. This is a labor of love -- as I have no immediate prospects of publishing it. But one can always hope. The story is told from the point of view of Juana La Loca, who was the third child of Isabel and Ferdinand. There have been a few novels about her published in English in the last five years, but I hope to add something new to the story.
And with those thoughts I will now dive back into my work.3 Comments 794 days

Of course you are missed.
If you'd asked--I would have suggested instead of going on hiatus do the minimums(1sub/2crits) but you must do what's best for you.
Looking forward to your return, write quickly!!
Got the flashlight/torch flashing back an answer--but my morse code really reeks so I might be saying something other than I intend-try not to take offense if it seems insulting...it's not meant to be. -

Throwing darts in the dark--LOL
I think you rate a bit better at darts than I, since in the dark I'd be lucky to hit the wall let alone the board!

Nancy Madrigal113 weeks agoHi Kathryn,
How are you? Thank you so much for your message
It is indeed good to come across people with similar interests and mindsets
Your novel sounds intriguing - what stage are you at? I'm actually heading away to Paris tomorrow for a few days, but it would be lovely to chat to you more when I get back.
It's all in the writing
Hope it's going well,
