    • The Best Albums of 2008

      This seems a little early for me, but there's no more music I'm really excited for (apart from being vaguely interested in Fall Out Boy's new record). So I thought what my favouritw 15 albums this year are. I did 10 this year but there are too many I have liked this year so here they are. Anyway this is more for my interest chances are no one is reading or caring:

      The top 15 albums of 2008

      1. Day & Age - The Killers (Everything you need in an album)
      2. Consolers of the Lonely - The Raconteurs (There's rock, blues country... everything)
      3. Folklore & Superstition - Black Stone Cherry (Reviving the southern style rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd)
      4. Searching For the Hows and Whys - Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly (He's amazing... as always)
      5. All Hope Is Gone - Slipknot (Awesome Metal from the most pissed off band ever!)
      6. Shogun - Trivium (They're best album to date)
      7. Death Magnetic - Metallica (A Great return to form
      8. Black Ice - AC/DC (As always, good hearted songs about sex and rock)
      9. Silver Spoons and Broken Bones - Stone Gods (Ex-Darkness boys writing good hearted Rock but on the heavier side from they're last band)
      10. Silent Cry - Feeder (A Grower. Gets better after time)
      11. Pretty. Odd. - Panic at the Disco (A Change in sound for the better)
      12. Envy & Other Sins - We Leave at Dawn (Good debut. Expect good things)
      13. Raise the Dead - Phantom Planet (Good band but will always be one hit wonders in the UK)
      14. Cage the Elephant - Cage the Elephant (Great debut. Again, expect great things)
      15 Chinese Democracy - Guns N' Roses (great album but is it worth the 14 year wait?)

      Worthy Mentions

      Runnin' Wild - Airbourne (Good album but pretty much clones of AC/DC)

      Scream Aim Fire - Bullet For My Valentine (Not as heavy as they promised but there are some great tunes on this)

      Viva La Vida - Coldplay (It's good but hard to listen all the way through)

      Narrow Stairs - Death Cab For Cutie (They're a good band but they will never beat the brilliance of Transatlanticism)

      Equilibrium - Erik Mongrain (Fantastic guitarist but the songs are easy to forget)

      Here We Stand - The Fratellis (Good album but a little bit too many fillers)

      Oracular Spectacular - MGMT (Good new band. Very nearly in my top 15)

      Man Like I - Natty (Great live performer but this album didn't capture that spirit)

      Dig Out Your Soul - Oasis (Good band, as always but this one is less exciting than the others)

      Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend (Again, very nearly in the top 15)

      Weezer (Red Album) - Weezer (A great return to form)

      You Can Do Anything - The Zutons (Very good compared to they're last album but they're lyrics are still a bit baffling sometimes)

      Disappointments of the Year

      Nostradamus - Judas Priest (I was expecting so much more...)

      Sleep Through the Static - Jack Johnson (There's nothing new and it's boring...)

    • Woo-hoo for iTunes!

      It's been ages since ive written in this thing for something about my life. And then it was about something pointless (reading for my new year resolution. And I'm keeping it half a year on i'll have you know.) and I suppose this entry is pretty pointless too but i'm very happy with what I have just found out.
      Recently, I have been loving Newton Faulkner, and as a guitarist I love his style of playing and his performances live I have seen on youtube. But he was the only guitarist I know who plays the guitar in that way. And I know there must have been other guitarists out there that play in that style. And I finally managed to find other performers like Newton, and it was thanks to Mr Faulkner as well.
      I bought the Newton Faulkner tab book which had all his songs in tabulature so I could learn a couple of his songs and experiment with the style he uses. And there was an introduction Newton Faulkner had written in the book and he says "Check out Eric Roche and Thomas Leeb. They're my favourite guitarists."
      So I looked up Eric Roche on youtube and found another great guitarist in the same fingerpick style. And I managed to find Thomas Leebs' Website where you could download his material on.... iTunes!
      For the record, I HATE iTunes. It's slows your computer and my laptop keeps crashing everytime I use it. And It's slow. Dead annoying. But anyway I managed to Download an Thomas Leeb album on the iTunes store and found many other guitarists that all use the same stuff including Eric Roche and one of my favourite peformers Erik Mongraine.

      So now, thanks to iTunes no less, I am now listening to the cool sounds of Thomas Leeb. Yay! Oh and if you want to listen to some of these guys here are a few names for you to look up: Thomas Leeb, Eric Roche, Erik Mongriane, Tommy Emmanuel and Andy McKee.
