Sarah Ann McLachlan, OC,OBC (born January 28, 1968) is a Grammy-winning Canadian musician, singer and songwriter.

She is known for the emotional sound of her ballads, some of her most popular songs include "Angel", "Building a Mystery", "Adia", "Possession", "Fallen", "I Will Remember You", and "World on Fire".

Her best-selling album to date is Surfacing, for which she won four Juno Awards and two Grammy Awards. In addition to her personal artistic efforts, she founded the Lilith Fair tour, which showcased female musicians in the late 1990s.

  • Biography - Early life

    Sarah McLachlan was born on January 28, 1968, and adopted in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As a child, she took voice lessons, along with studies in classical piano and guitar. When she was 17 years old, and still a student at Queen Elizabeth High School, she fronted a short-lived rock band called "The October Game". Her high school yearbook claimed that she was "destined to become a famous rock star."

    Following The October Game's first concert at Dalhousie University opening for Moev, McLachlan was offered a recording contract with Vancouver-based independent record label Nettwerk by Moev's Mark Jowett. McLachlan's parents convinced her to finish her studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design before embarking on a new life as a recording artist, and McLachlan finally signed to Nettwerk two years later before having written a single song.

      Hi Everyone.
      My name is Terence and I live in Buttevant in Ireland. Ive been a Fan of Sarah's for the past 8 years, and to say that Sarah Saved my Life is an Understatement! So, I was thinking of maybe getting fans to write me their reason for why the are into Sarah, whatever experience they have had in which Sarah has meant so much to them. I'm Hoping that it could be collected into a book, and that any money raised would go to a charity of Sarah's choice. Personally, I'd like some of the money to go to the main Chidrens Hospital here in Ireland, but that would be up to Sarah if she wants to get involved. I work as a Postman, or Mailman as we are called in the States, so Id hope people would post their experiences onto me. I Hope that anyone would forward this to fellow fans, and of course all stories would be held in Strictest Confidence. Im going to see Sarah live next month in the US, cant wait! Sarah, We Love U, We Missed U and We''ll be Here For U!!!
