Disease outbreak at Ferrari F1 factory
''We think the lab should be shut down''
Workers at Ferrari's Formula One factory in Italy have been told to keep working despite an outbreak of the infectious disease tuberculosis.
The British newspaper The Sun reports that a staff member was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with TB, a common and deadly disease that - if untreated - kills up to half of its victims.
The newspaper said the staff member was a carbon fibre specialist, and Ferrari confirmed that he has a 'mild form' of tuberculosis.
It is reported that the 25 technicians whose job it is to build Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa's cars for each Grand Prix are currently undergoing blood tests to see if they have also been infected.
Ferrari said Raikkonen and Massa will not need tests.
"We're not happy," a British employee is quoted as saying from Maranello.
"We think the lab should be shut down until we get an all-clear. It feels as if Ferrari are putting cars before people."

“Everything that could go wrong did”
The Monaco Grand Prix was not on of Kimi Raikkonen’s finest races. The drive through penalty for not having the tyres fitted to his F2008 started the ball rolling and the final laps of a scrappy race saw the Ferrari driver lose control and crash into the back of the unfortunate Adrian Sutil. Raikkonen knows that it was not his finest hour, but has been around the sport long enough to know it is a long season.
"Sometimes things go well and sometimes they don't," Raikkonen said. "But what happened to us at Monaco was something no one could have foreseen. I left Monaco empty handed. Everything that could go wrong did. But I never look back, because you can't change things of the past. I'm really sorry for what happened with Sutil and I told him I was sorry. These are things that just happen in racing."
"This was my second bad race this year, but, as I've already said after the race at Barcelona, we all have some bad days," Raikkonen continued.
"I built up a little advantage before the race, which enabled me to absorb, at least a bit, that negative race."
Raikkonen is second in the championship standings with 35 points, three behind Monaco Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton and one ahead of team-mate Felipe Massa.
“Although I didn't collect any points in the last race, thus loosing the lead in the Championships, it's not the end of the world. Last year I was in a much poorer situation. Now we have to go to Montreal... and I'm convinced that we'll have a better car than last year."0 commentaires 562 jours

Rossi has 'some regrets' regarding F1
Wondering at what might have been
Flamboyant MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi has admitted he would like to know how he would have fared had he decided to switch to Formula One with Ferrari a few years ago.
The Italian tested for the famous Maranello marque several times, and seriously considered switching codes, but ultimately decided to stay on two wheels.
"'Sorry' is not the right word," Rossi, now 29, is quoted as saying by the publication Affari Italiani on Wednesday, "but I do have some regrets because I am still curious to know what I could have done."
Rossi, who at the Le Mans circuit last Sunday equalled motorcycle great Angel Nieto's tally of 90 victories, explained that he simply baulked at moving to F1.
"I was doing well in the testing -- it had always been my dream to race with Ferrari. But at that time I was not ready for the jump and I was in the middle of the motorcycles."
"Driving F1 cars is extremely satisfying," he added. "It is less a vehicle and more like an aeroplane, giving you great sensations. But for a motorcyclist it is also a strange feeling; putting your legs into a black hole."
Rossi refuses to rule out switching to four wheels at some time in the future.
"I want to do some more racing (in MotoGP) and then I want to spend some seasons with my passion; the cars. Perhaps rallying, maybe something else," he said.0 commentaires 562 jours
