  • Mother Arrested After Child Deaths

    The 21-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder after a baby and toddler were stabbed to death is believed to be their mother.

    The three-month-old and three-year-old were found dead at a property in the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester, police said.

    The woman is being questioned in custody.

    "An investigation is currently under way into the circumstances surrounding their deaths," a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said.

    The Manchester Evening News reported that the children received fatal stab wounds to the chest.

    Officers arrived in Kilmington Drive at 5.45pm after being alerted by an ambulance already at the scene.

    It is understood there was "concern for welfare" at the property, which is about two miles north of Manchester city centre.

    At the scene, Sky's Tessa Chapman said: "Forensic investigations have already started here as police try to piece together the circumstances of what happened."

    The sexes and names of the children are not being disclosed until next of kin had been informed.

    A neighbour described the case as "heart-breaking, just tragic - hard to believe".

    Another said the arrested woman had lived at the property just six months.

    The force is appealing for anyone with any information about the discovery to contact CID officers at Grey Mare Lane station on 0161 856 3540 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  • Pair Arrested After Teenager's Murder

    Two men have been arrested after a teenage boy was found stabbed to death in a flat.
    Two other youths were also discovered at Verona House, Erith, south east London, with knife wounds.

    All are in their mid to late teens.

    Scotland Yard said one was pronounced dead at the scene, while the others were taken to the Royal London Hospital.

    The Metropolitan Police says one youth has now been released and the other remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

    A Met spokesman said: "We are investigating the circumstances of the incident and retain an open mind about the motive.

    "We believe the incident happened following an altercation with a suspect or suspects who then left the flat. We have no further details or descriptions at this early stage."

    The youth is the second teenager to be stabbed to death this year.

    A 17-year-old, Henry Bolombi was killed in Edmonton, north London, on New Year's Day after celebrating in the capital.

    Last year, 27 teenagers were murdered in the London area.

    Tributes to teenage road victim

    FAMILY and friends are mourning the death of a popular teenager killed in a road accident this week.

    Henry Avery, 18, from Southrop, died in hospital after his car collided with a tree on the A361 near the Kencot and Holwell junction shortly before midnight last Thursday.

    His green Renault Clio had been travelling towards Lechlade. The 18-year-old was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he later died of his injuries.

    A 17-year-old friend from Fairford was also in the Renault. He suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

    Henry, a former Farmor's School student, was well-known in Southrop, having worked at The Swan, washed cars in the village for pocket money and taken on a paper round when he was a boy.

    His parents Dave and Jilly Avery paid tribute to their much-loved son and said they had already received more than 60 cards of condolence.

    "Everybody is devastated," Mr Avery said. "It's a parent's worse nightmare.

    "He was such a well liked lad and very popular with the girls apparently. He was just starting to get his life together and next year he intended to go to Australia."

    At the time of his death Henry had been working in the kitchen of a pub in Oxfordshire. He also played for Fairford Rugby Club 2nd XV which held a minute's silence in his memory before the team's weekend match against Swindon.

    Mr Avery particularly thanked staff at Moore Allen and Innocent for their support over the last few days.

    Although a painter and decorator by trade, he organises the catering at Moore Allen's salerooms in Cirencester on viewing and sale days where Henry often helped out.

    Henry is survived by four brothers and two sisters. He lived at home with his parents, and brothers Oliver, 23, Matthew, 22 and Charlie, 17.

    An inquest into his death was opened on Tuesday and adjourned to a date to be fixed.

    Thames Valley Police are investigating the crash, particularly which of the teenagers was driving the vehicle. Henry's funeral will take place in Southrop at a date to be announced soon.




    Henry Reallly was such a lovely happy chap !! he always knew how to put a smile on ur face with all the compliments he'd come out with.
    it feels so unreal without Henry the weekends really wiill never be the same!

      Think that 'Knife Crime' isn't the top of my priorities due to International Terrorism, the threat of a Nuclear War etc are much more important. And thankfully I couldn't care if you think that I'am wrong because this is a free world and I have the right to say what I want due to USA and all the other Coalition Forces that entered Iraq and Afghanistan to make peace.
