Since than, we've performed for our community during the July 4th celebration, the North Slope Boroughs anniversary, and for other special occassions, We.ve also traveled in Alaska to Anchorage for the World Eskimo Indian Olympic in July in which we took home the first place trophy. And we also went to Fairbanks for the Alaska Federation of Natives. Read on below for more information on our dance group.

  • TAGIUGMIUT DANCERS

Like I said earlier, our dance group formed in January of 2007. And now in January of 2008 our dance group has about 50 members. And I'm very proud to say that most of them are children. We take it serious when it comes to teaching our children the old song and dance as my wife and I also started dancing when we were 4 or 5 years old. We took a cd made in 1946 by Dr. Laura Bolton, wrote the songs down like in a song book, and we took it from there. The group in the cds were lead by my grandfather, Joe Sikvayugak. Then, for the most part, we took the meanings of the songs and made them into motions. These songs may had motions to them, but there is no video for us to see, so we made the motions as close to the meaning of the song as possible. My wife and I would really like to take this opportunity to thank our younger brother, Joseph Riley Sikvayugak, who took all the time to listen to the recordings and write all the songs down. He was also a vital part in creating the Tagiugmtiut Dancers. So, THANKS BROTHER. Also a big thanks to those who stood by us as we were making the dance group. We were planning on going to the Gathering of Nations Pow-Wow in New Mexico, but only for 40 of our dancers its roughly $50,000 so we will see when the time comes. We've been fundraising for our dance group to travel for this year. We are planning to hold to our title of the first place in the Eskimo dance competition at the World Eskimo Indian Olympics this July in Fairbanks. How exciting. We are getting invitations left and right from different companies to perform for them and it's very cool. We are always honored to perform our song and dance for anyone. If you want to know anything else, just post a comment and I will send you a reply. And to all the other Tagiugmiut Dancers, if you want to add to anything of this, just post a comment. Thanks for visiting my bebo page. YAY TAGIUGMIUT!!!
