GLADIATOR gives us a perfect glimpse of Roman life, ha in the film when Commodus gives the thumb's down Ridley Scott was shown a paintin of Jean leon Gerome's ( THUMB'S DOWN ) he was so blown away by it he used it in his film while filming the barbaric gladiatorial games so it just show's that a simple thing like a painting could have such a knock on effect, To me story and character are the two most important element's in any film and gladiator has both from start to finish this film get's five S*T*A*R*S.
