Do you know someone who is cruel to an animal?
If so please contact your local SSPCA/DSPCA/RSPCA depending on where you are from. If you are unsure please ask us, we will provide you with the phone number of the group closest to your area who will assist as soon as they can. It's very important to report animal abuse/neglect/cruelty. NEVER be afraid, its all confidential and the people who you contact will make you aware of this. Please always report animal cruelty no matter what! There are certain things by legislation that are not considered cruel, even though us animals lovers would disagree. Again please contact Emma and Fi and we will keep you straight x
If you find an injured animal?
Depending on the animal and size, again contact your local animal welfare organisation who will guide you through the best thing to do
Remember
This time of year is for the young animals eps for young birds so dont worry if you see a young bird on the ground and struggling to take flight. This is perfectly normal, only if you see any blood or wings dragging on the ground, or weakness please contact your local animal welfare organisation.

  • 10 Ways to make the world a better place for animals

    1. Sign to say animals matter to you
Add your name to the global petition for a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare at www.AnimalsMatter.org. This legislation would give animals everywhere the same basic levels of protection.

    2. Report animal cruelty
Learn to recognise signs of animal abuse or neglect and report it immediately to your local branch of WSPA member charity the RSPCA.

    3. Help reduce animal overpopulation
Adopt your next new animal companion from a local rescue shelter. Make sure your new friend is spayed or neutered and microchipped. For more information, contact any of these WSPA member charities: the RSPCA , Dogs Trust or Cats Protection.

    4. Make animal-friendly food choices
When shopping, look out for food labels from the Soil Association and the RSPCA Freedom Food range – both are schemes which use strict animal welfare standards. A WSPA member charity, Compassion in World Farming, provides information on compassionate shopping.

    5. Be a compassionate traveller
Culture is not a justification for cruelty. Don’t give your tourist cash to something that you would not consider ok at home, such as bullfighting, or posing for photos with wild animals. Never buy gifts or souvenirs that are made from wildlife.

    6. Use consumer power
Send a message to companies by buying cruelty-free products like cosmetics and household cleaners that haven’t been tested on animals.

    7. Save orangutans during your weekly shop
The biggest threat to orangutans comes from the destruction of their habitat to grow palm oil crops. Palm oil can be found in a huge variety of products in your local supermarket, from ice cream to soap. The Borneo Orangutan Survival project is currently campaigning for UK supermarkets to alter their palm oil policy.

    8. Don’t wear another animal’s coat
Avoid buying or wearing fur of any kind. Be careful not to unintentionally purchase garments with fur trim or lining.

    9. Enjoy cruelty-free entertainment
Stay away from circuses that feature animals, dog-racing tracks and other venues that exploit animals for entertainment and put their welfare second.

    10. Live in harmony with your wild neighbours
Use a corner of your garden to create a haven for wildlife by providing appropriate habitat. Find ways to control “nuisance” animals humanely. Most importantly reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible to preserve the world’s habitats and resources.

  • What is Fois Grais and where does it come from?

http://www.peta.org.uk/feat/rogermoo... - WATCH THIS VIDEO PLEASE

Foie gras is the enlarged liver of a goose/duck. The name, which literally means "fat liver" in French refers to a liver from a goose that has been fattened by force feeding so that it becomes particularly large (the liver can weigh up to four pounds)- some consider this a delicacy??

Ducks and geese raised for foie gras are abused in ways that would be illegal if dogs and cats were the victims. The reality of it is simple lets cram metal pipes down the throats of ducks and geese and force-feed them until their livers become painfully diseased and enlarged and, in some cases, their organs rupture.

    How can you help???

Simple, dont ever purchase this. Take the 'No Foie Gras' pledge promising that you will never support the horrific cruelty of the foie gras industry.

Do restaurants in your area serve foie gras? If so, please write to or speak with the managers, alert them to the cruelty involved in foie gras production, and ask that the restaurants remove foie gras from their menus. Check out PETA's "Guide to Letter-Writing" for great writing tips. If the restaurants refuse, please e-mail VegInfo@peta.org. We can send you copies of our eye-opening leaflet and undercover video to share with others.

Alot of the information above has been supplied by Peta, for more information please go to http://www.goveg.com/feat/foie/ or www.peta.org.uk

  • Just how bad is Kentucky Fried Chicken? Please read the info below from Peta

http://www.kentuckyfriedcruelty.com/... -WATCH THE VIDEO FOR PROOF

In July 2004, PETA revealed the results of an investigation into a KFC-supplying slaughterhouse in Moorefield, West Virginia, where workers were caught on video stomping on chickens, kicking them, and violently slamming them against floors and walls. Workers also ripped the animals' beaks off, twisted their heads off, spat tobacco into their eyes and mouths, spray-painted their faces, and squeezed their bodies so hard that the birds expelled feces—all while the chickens were still alive. Dan Rather echoed the views of all kind people when he said on the CBS Evening News, “[T]here's no mistaking what [the video] depicts: cruelty to animals, chickens horribly mistreated before they're slaughtered for a fast-food chain.”

The world's leading animal welfare experts condemned the cruelty at this KFC supplier. Colorado State University professor of animal science, biomedical sciences, and philosophy, university distinguished professor, and university bioethicist Dr. Bernard Rollin writes, “I can unequivocally state that the behavior I saw exemplified in [this] videotape was totally unacceptable. … The tape showed evidence of a work force that apparently failed to recognize that chickens are living sentient beings capable of feeling pain and distress.” Dr. Temple Grandin, perhaps the industry's leading farmed-animal welfare expert, writes, “The behavior of the plant employees was atrocious,” and asserts that even though she has toured poultry facilities in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, and the U.K., the video showed “the WORST employee behavior I have ever seen in a poultry plant.” University of Guelph professor of applied ethology and university chair in animal welfare Dr. Ian Duncan writes, “This tape depicts scenes of the worst cruelty I have ever witnessed against chickens … and it is extremely hard to accept that this is occurring in the United States of America.”

    What You Can Do?????

The best thing you can do to help spare animals from such torture is to stop eating them and, thus, stop supporting the industry that allows such cruelty to occur.
This facility was a KFC “Supplier of the Year.” Learn more about PETA's campaign to reform KFC.

Even though more than 9 billion birds are killed each year by the meat and egg industries, these animals are not protected by a single federal animal welfare law. Legislation will be introduced soon to add chickens, turkeys, and ducks to the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act.
