- Its all about the Guitar.
- Me, Myself, and I
- Metal is a genre of rock music that started in the 1960s and 70s, with the invention of the electric guitar. It was strongly influenced by the blues influenced rock bands of the 60s. Metal is characterized by its thick, large sound, using amplified distorted guitars.
Heavy Metal is loud! This sound is created by all tube amplifiers, heavy overdrive, and volume nobs turned to 10 (or in spinal taps case ).
THE LOUDER THE BETTER!

Dimebag Darrell (born Darrell Lance Abbott)
At a very young age Darrell won a series of local guitar competitions where he won his first Dean (later known as the ML styled guitar.) Incidentally, his father, Jerry Abbott, had bought him a cherryburst finished Dean (ML) standard the morning before the competition, so he only had a few hours of playing time on it. These and another contest prize, his first Randall Amplifier, are the two staples of his style and sound. By the age of 18 he had already won all the guitar contests and sampled the sweetest herb in that area of Texas and was barred from entering any further competitions (as he had already won them all), but was asked to return as a judge.
On December 8, 2004, while performing with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag Darrell Abbott was shot and killed onstage by former U.S. Marine Nathan Gale. Abbott was shot a total of five times, at point-blank range in the back of the head. He was 38 years old.

Jake, we should do an acoustic set
well that's why I plan on writing all my stuff solo from now on. pick my own members and get my own gigs etc. and just pay them a small amount every time we do a paid gig and keep the rest myself. that way I own the equipment and take control of the bank account. last band I was in our p.a. was shit so we asked the bass player to hire one, the stupid fuck hired the exact same p.a. as the one we had
Well, my band suck arse.
Every band practice becomes a drink-up featuring guitar, drums and no bass. Then we sit around and go "Oh, this sweep would be quite good in a solo" etc, and generally do fuck all.
Now you can feel smugger, YAndy
Yeah I must admit I do a lot of the work ie getting shows etc but that's because I'm the one with the connections to the venues we play at. But still, the rest of the guys still contribute heavily. Our bassist just recently replaced his Squire with a $1300 LTD Surveyor 400 just so we could get a better sound. Our vocalist and drummer aren't the best, but by god they try their hardest to improve and kick ass every time we play.
I'm just sharing.
From my experience, a band will work ONLY if everyone has the same vision and drive, luckily like mine does.
Sorry if I'm coming off arrogant or anything like that by the way
thats what its like for me
everyone in my band does fuck all except play what i tel them to
fuckng gay
i give 200% and they give like 5%
annoys me so much
if i quit the whole thing would fall apart and they know it but they dont care
It's usually one person who seems to have the serious drive and the rest of the band just helps and give 50%. that's what I've learned from being the guy who gives 100% all the time. I've worked with very few people who worked as hard at getting gigs and proper equipment etc. and a SHIT lot of guys who simply spent €200 on a guitar, got into the band and then just sat back and did nothing but complain
I personally think why a lot of bands don't make it is because they don't have the drive like many bands at the top do/did.
Well of the bands that do make it A LOT bigger than all these generic Metalcore and Deathcore bands ever will.
But yeah if you don't have a good sound its not going to work. But everyone that has seen us play in recent times liked our stuff. So I guess we can't be that bad.
I disagree. depending on how successful you want to be, you can market yourself to have the sound the public wants you to have. make it to the top a lot quicker that way. you might just end up playing a style you don't like though. IMO everyone comes into a band with their own sound and ideas and they all merge together to form the sound of the band. which a lot of the time just isn't great, which is why most bands don't make it.
The thing with my band is we kind of play our own style. Not saying we've re-invented Heavy Metal, its just the fact that no-one said "Oh lets be a Blackened Death Metal band" or "Lets be a generic faggoty Metalcore band". When it comes down to it, you really can't pick how your gonna sound from Day 1, you just ride it out and see what happens.
Check out my new song - tappy the tappysaurus rex! probably the catchiest shred lick iv ever come up with! haha
give it a listen ae guys
ive recently started a new band and the other guitarist is cool cos he lets me shred unlike any other band ive been in where they were pricks and green day fans
and its different from he last time i was in a band with the same guy and a really shit bassist who wanted me to play open chords and play them slowly
rusty cooley = technique god
Yeah me and our bass player work really, really well together. We've been playing together for like 2 years now and since day one we just clicked. I guess its comes down to all the Pantera and Rage Against The Machine we played.
I think the batbear's a gimp
The batbear has AIDS.
Please add The Batbear

Thanks
(P.s I think the 3 Maiden guitarists are the best
I'd agree all round, and it does fatten up the sound. It's very hard to find a guy who is strictly a rhythm player. my flat mate in college was one of those but at the time his playing was quite weak so it was understandable. I would rather have a decent bass player than have to deal with another guitarist again.
I have to admit I was in one band, Black13, with another lead guitarist and it was the best fun I'd ever had playing with another guitarist cuz we fitted so well together but he started playing other stuff then after, quit guitar altogether. pity cuz he's the best shredder I've met. Like he was WTF?!?! good
My band had two guitarists, but our second one recently left, so now its down to me and our bassist to play the rhythm. I wanted to replace him, but we never found a good candidate. He was good because he was strictly a rhythm player and ALWAYS played his parts to 100% perfection. However the guys who tried replacing him didn't fit, one dude was keen to play, but was totally a shredder, and that wasn't what we were after.
I know having two guitars does fatten up the sound, but we just found no-one that saw what we saw in our band. You know what I'm saying?
i think to only have 1 guitar player you have to have a good bass player to play stuff behind when you solo, if your bass players like bog standard or worse then the overall sound is gonna be weak, i think
that didnt come out very well but you probably get what i mean haha
