Volume 1

Each episode reveals new answers and questions and progresses the story and/or the characters. There is an overall arc of the first season that revolves around stopping an explosion of immense proportions that happens in the future. That arc is initially carried by two characters, Hiro Nakamura and Isaac Mendez, the former having seen the event in the future and the latter having painted it from his visions.

The first four episodes of the first season revolved primarily around characters discovering their powers, dealing with the issues of normal life and coping with the consequences of their discovery.

At the end of the fourth episode, a smaller arc began with the message "Save the cheerleader, save the world", which is tied to the explosion already foreseen. By the end of that arc, the characters slowly discovered their abilities and the existence of others like them, and some of them even began to realize the need to come together to prevent a catastrophe.

As characters progress through the first season learning of others similar to them, the plot turns to the question of how the explosion seen in Hiro's trip to the future and Isaac's paintings will occur and what role the various characters will play to stop it or cause it.


Volume 2

Heroes continues from where Volume Two - "Generations" - began, with Hiro Nakamura in feudal Japan while the rest of the Heroes are moving on four months after the events at Kirby Plaza. In commercials from NBC, it is suggested that many new characters will appear. from an interview given to EW, makers said that Claire and her family will go back into hiding, at an attempt at normalcy, as will policeman Matt Parkman. In a interview given to the G4 Network on Attack of the Show it was told that this season will focus on a older generation of Heroes such as Hiro Nakamura's father and Peter Petrelli's mother. It was also noted that the theme for this season would not be normal people doing extraordinary things but extraordinary people doing normal things. Many of the Heroes must now return to their normal lives and blend in with the rest of the human population.


Volume 3

The lead-in to the third volume, "Villains", features Sylar. Throughout volume two, his powers are suppressed by the Shanti virus. Now, using a stolen cure developed by Mohinder, he regains his abilities, delivering the first line of the volume: "I'm back." Tim Kring has claimed that the new volume will bring a cadre of villains to the show, hence the name. It is unknown when the third volume of Heroes will air.

Mohinder Suresh

Mohinder is genetics professor at the University of Madras in India. He discovers that his father has been killed and starts to believe that he was murdered because of his theories on human evolution. He heads to New York and tries to work out what might have happened by searching through his father's research.


Claire Bennet

Claire is a high school cheerleader from Texas. Her life changes drastically when she discovers that she has the ability to heal herself when she's injured. She confides in her school friend Zach but swears him to secrecy as she's worried people will think she's a freak.


Peter Petrelli

Peter has grown up in the shadow of his brother, Nathan. So it's only too apt that while Nathan eagerly wades into the murky political waters of Congress, Peter, as a hospice nurse, decided to devote his life to caring for others. When we first meet him, he is looking after the dying father of Simone Deveaux. However, Peter is restless and believes he was destined for something bigger - namely, saving the world. He also believes he can fly.


Nathan Petrelli

His brother Peter might have got all the compassion, but the ambition belongs entirely to Nathan Petrelli. At face value, Nathan is a loving husband and father, and a devoted politician. In reality, he hides and suppresses his own secret ability, not to mention a ruthlessness and willingness to get the job done - at any cost.


Hiro Nakamura

Hiro has a tedious office job and like Peter Petrelli, he is convinced that he is destined for great things. When he manages to get a clock ticking backwards with the power of his mind he runs to tell his best friend Ando - who thinks he's mad.
Undeterred, Hiro decides to test his power again, this time on the Tokyo subway. Where should he go? A poster of New York provides the answer.


Isaac Mendez

Isaac is an artist who lives in New York. He has the ability to paint the future during precognitive trances (primarily triggered by drugs). He also writes and draws the comic book '9th Wonders!' which similarly depicts future events. Initially Isaac is romantically involved with Simone Deveaux. She tries to encourage him to go into rehab but Isaac thinks he needs the drugs to help him paint. Simone finds his refusal to give up the drugs and his insistence that he can paint the future increasingly frustrating.


Matt Parkman

Niki Sanders

Niki lives in Las Vegas with her gifted son Micah. She is forced to make ends meet as an internet stripper, after her husband D.L was sent to prison for a crime he says he didn't commit. Loan sharks are after her and no one seems to be looking out for her. Or are they? When Niki gets in trouble, someone seems to step in. She becomes increasingly convinced that her reflection in the mirror has a mind of its own.


Micah Sanders

Micah is the 10-year-old son of Niki Sanders and DL Hawkins, and something of a boy genius. Instinctively capable of fixing complex machinery, and with a far greater grasp of events around him than his parents would like, he has as important a role as any of the Heroes in the fate of New York - and the world. He even has a power of his own, able to control machines simply by touching them.


Ando Masahashi

Ando has no superpowers of his own, but he plays a key role as Hiro's best friend and side-kick. At first he is skeptical
