- Biff Merchants began gigging in February 2007 after having been together since around November the previous year, performing entirely original material Biff Merchants came together as friends and siblings to attempt to create something more musically profound than their previous ventures. From it's inception, the Biff Merchant project's intention has been to provide audiences with a multi-sensory experience which they can become disorientated to. The psychedelic nature of the project has been a focus when considering sound, lighting and multi-media effects. EP "The Battle For Jubilee Park" available at Real Groovy or one of our gigs for $15.

Me, Myself and Satan
Money is satan. What a clever entity, the perfect way to inseminate yourself into a society that is obsessed with material things. Satan is slowly sucking my soul out via my wallet, I have joined the machinery that constitutes western society. Yes people, I am talking about full time employment. Making money for someone else. In order for businesses to make money, they must be paying the worker less than what his labour is worth. Helloooo satan. Become a priest, or a politician. at least your hands will remain soft. either way, satan has your soul.

Leg 2 of Micro Tour
Invercargill was a great time, the Gluepot was nice enough to put up both us and Emergency+Phone at a backpackers. Before proceeding to the bar, both bands and friends crumpled into the microvan for some pre-drinks where we quickly created condensation and drank orange kristov cask. Tono and the Finance Co. (who's members are involved with both bands, and were kind enough to play without any extra perks going their way) opened things up and schooled us all. The bar never really got busy at all, but it was good to see that the people who were there, were interested in the music. There was some real good cunt who I have to commend highly for his attitude who wandered in off the street stumbling like a tumbleweed, but unfortunately not blowing through. After enjoying Emergency+Phone's set, then playing ours we were congratulated with a: "finally, some real music" when we finished and the metal came back on. But this confused me as prior he had been trying to get the whole pub up to dance, getting incredibly angry when people failed to grant his requests. We ended up walking the streets of Invercargill, and I entered nother pub by the name of Tillermans with a couple of my comrades. To say the least, we received a reasonably cold response. The record scratched and the locals eyeballed us. I think it didn't help that Chris only had half a beard, split down the middle. We spent most of the time in there reading the wall.... After being hit up by a couple under 12s for a cigarette, and complying, we headed back to our accommodation where we took back the contents of the 24 dairy's pie warmer. Honestly, we're talking at least 20 pies. We then spent the better part of 2 hours, making a fuck load of noise, to no complaints. Think they may have shuffled us off to the inner depths of the building where noone dare spend the night. And so we babbled our way back to Dunedin, jaded and deranged for the Battle of the Bands.4 komentarze 526 dni

Microtour
So the Queenstown/Invercargill round trip was successful. After numerous events which conspired to cut short our journey we made it home safe and sound. We made it all the way to Mosgiel before the Micro van for the Microtour overheated and we had to make an unscheduled stop over at Shell Mosgiel. Believe me, we had the best intentions to avoid Mosgiel at all costs. Everyone was a bit fried and so making decisions about what to do was a drawn out process that eventuated in andy undoing the radiator cap while the van was still hot, exploding brown water throughout the van. This was met with a cacophony of laughter from all involved. A new radiator cap later and we were back on the road to well-being. We played at the Dux to a bemused mix of people in Queenstown and had no accommodation. We ashamedly ambled down to the brothel that is world bar in order to find beds to sleep in. We ended up just going upstairs and having a polyrhythmic percussion jam on the table. a broken glass later and we high tailed it back to the micro van which was still parked in the Wilson's underground carpark. We proceeded to sleep in manwich formation and let me tell you 5 guys in a micro van = condensation. Paul had enough and slept on the concrete outside. In the morning someone had called the babylon thinking there was a body dumped on the ground. So we woke to an officer of the law rapping on the window. She was awesome, she just said we better go and was nice enough not to fine me for not having a warrant of fitness. Two minutes later a journalist from some local publication turned up wanting to do a story on the 5 men that slept in a van together. What will come of that scoop of the century i don't know. Anyway, ten bucks to get the van out of the carpark, and accommodation crisis averted. So began the Invercargill leg.

Gluepot Band Wars 2009
Join the battle, last year we had 20 bands enter from around the Southland and Dunedin regions, with the eventual winners "The Biff Merchants", see if you can knock them off their perch. Last year the Biffs took away $2000, and Made in China (2nd placed) $500. This year will bring bigger and better prizes, and hopefully more money to the winners.
This year we're also opening the event up to the rest of the country, there will also be an all ages section, where under 18 years can come watch some of their peers playing, as well as some of the older bands.
This is just another chance to support local music, and see some of the talent that comes from the depths of the South Island.
Dates to be confirmed, starting April 2009. The Final will be held in May.
Taking application for entry now, for those traveling long distances we will be holding the final heat the night before the final (so you don't need to make two trips if you make the finals).,
I find it rather hillarious that after band wars loads of people in Invercargill started loving your guys music (which is all good). But when you played earlier in the year bugger all people came to your gigs. I was a big fan of The Biff before band wars and I'm proud of that fact. You guys rock my socks off.
LOVE the ep guys!
