Jermaine Beckford was born in London on December 9, 1983. He was signed by Leeds United in March 2006, with Leeds fending off competition from Crystal Palace, Charlton, Sunderland, Watford and Southampton to capture his signature from Wealdstone, who he made 40 appearances for, scoring 35 goals.
After loan spells at Carlisle and Scunthorpe, he stayed at Leeds and had a successful pre-season, and got his first competitive goal for Leeds in their 4-1 demolition of Southend. He then got a late winner against Nottingham Forest, which cemented his place in the starting line up. He and Tresor Kandol have developed a trademark celebration that they share, in which they raise to their tiptoes and demonstrate a basketball shooting action in each other's direction.
On October 11, Beckford agreed a new three-year-deal with Leeds, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2009-10 season.
