Ghost in the Shell is a futuristic police thriller dealing with the exploits of Motoko Kusanagi, a member of the covert operations section of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, Section 9, which specializes in fighting technology-related crime.Although Kusanagi supposedly equal to all other members, She fills the leadership role in the team, and is usually referred to as "the Major" due to her past rank in the armed forces. She is capable of superhuman feats, and cybernetically specialized for her job — her body is almost completely mechanized; only her brain and a segment of her spinal cord are organic.
The setting of Ghost in the Shell is cyberpunk or postcyberpunk, similar to that of William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy. More than other cyberpunk authors, however, Shirow focuses more on the ethical and philosophical ramifications of the widespread merging of humanity and technology. The development of artificial intelligence and an omnipresent computer network set the stage for a reevaluation of human identity and uniqueness. More so than the films, the manga tackles these questions head on: Kusanagi and her colleagues face external threats and also suffer internal conflict over their own natures.

Motoko Kusanagi
Major Motoko Kusanagi (草薙素子, Kusanagi Motoko?) is a cyborg in the employ of "Public Security Section 9", a fictional division of the real Japanese National Public Safety Commission, as the squad leader. In the Japanese anime movies and series, she is voiced by Atsuko Tanaka. In the English dubbing of the film, Mimi Woods provides the voice, and in the English Stand Alone Complex TV series, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is the voice actress.
Little is known of Kusanagi's early history, though the television series hints at some of her background, usually through flashbacks; commonly from the points of view of others, rarely from Kusanagi's.0 komentarzy 788 dni

Pazu
Pazu is an investigator in Section 9.
Before joining Public Security Section 9, Pazu was rumored by various police circles to have been a gangster in several yakuza groups in Japan. Pazu is also a known chain smoker within the unit. Ishikawa
Ishikawa is Section 9’s information and technology expert. He is one of the least cyberised members of the team. He formerly served with Kusanagi and Batou in South America when they were with the Ground Self-Defense Forces in the Japanese UN contingent. He does little fieldwork in the series as he is usually stays at Section 9’s headquarters or he remains in an armored vehicle or helicopter.
