    • I'm Back!!!

      Hello everyone! Can i just say how good it is to be slowly returning to normality.

      I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me, left messages, voted, text, called etc. Its extrememly difficult to respond to all of these messages due to my limited time just now and the sheer volume of messages. But i will try!?!?!

      However that doesnt mean that i dont appreciate and value everyones support all the same!

      Im doing a lot of radio, newspapers and TV just now to really highlight and push the various causes and organsations i support and to really apply public pressure as much as i can to ensure what we believe is at the top of the political and public agenda.

      Once again thanks for the support, I owe everything to you guys,

    • Scotland’s youth says “No to Nuclear!”

      The Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament could not be more definite in their answer – nuclear power has no part in Scotland’s energy future.

      The young representatives had gathered in Kirkwall from all corners of Scotland for a National Sitting with the theme of “Sustainable Futures”. Following input from Neil Kermode of the Orkney Renewable Energy Forum and Ian Cathro from British Energy, a heated debate ensued, but the result was never in question, with 69% of MSYPs firmly opposed to the use of nuclear power, even in the short term.

      The result builds on the SYP’s recent “Our Scotland” manifesto, launched in time for the Scottish Parliament elections. Having directly consulted over 6,000 young people the manifesto was quite clear: “Nuclear power is not an option for Scotland”.

      Sunday’s debate was designed to allow the Scottish Youth Parliament to feed into the UK Government’s current consultation into the future of nuclear power and, in particular, the building of new nuclear power stations.

      Speaking about the result, and the Sitting, SYP Chair John Loughton said:
      “Scotland’s young people have spoken. Despite strong defence of the case for nuclear power, the MSYPs clearly have the interests of the environment and of future generations at heart. Each of our national Sittings brings forward issues of importance to young people and this one is no exception – it gives us even more of a mandate to demand action from Westminster.”

      As well as the debate on nuclear power, MSYPs were involved in a variety of workshops on sustainability and examining their own environmental impact. Every MSYP can guarantee to have gone home that little bit greener, having made pledges to improve their carbon footprint and taking with them an energy-efficient power-down plug to start them on their way!



      This Sitting has been kindly hosted by Orkney Islands Council.
      Orkney Renewable Energy Forum kindly donated time and resources, providing expert workshop facilitators as well as the energy efficient lightbulbs and other information.
      British Energy kindly donated the time of an expert speaker to the debate.

    • LGBT Youth Election Results

      Hi All!

      Well i had a 6 day week this week! We had a great meeting with the RNiB so hopefully they will get on board as members soon.

      Also, this Saturday i went to a big event in Glasgow hosted by LGBT Youth Scotland. They are doing lots of awesome stuff around Youth Empowerment so well done!

      I would also like to welcome our 2 newest recruits, Sam Kerr and Craig Cochrane. Im sure you will have fun and gets lots out of the SYP!
