i haven't written one of these these for a while because..well ive been busy,

I recently got a new job and now work at Aardman Animations (the same place that does wallace and gromit and that) and am quite happy here, I work as apart of the edit department and do all the video encoding for itunes and youtube ect. the Archive of material is monumental when i first started i was unaware of all the other project aardman has been involved in.


i still make my own films and have been working on some exciting secret projects which i am starting to make now, some experimental stuff and alot of old school stuff which you have to build with your hands.

The new Kate modern animation is up and its nice to be apart of the story again, but me thinks more animated Charlie action is needed for the future so i will be tuning in to Kate modern a lot more for inspiration.

I recently got a house rabbit, hes name is Osca and he is a massive scamp.

Coming soon, i got this tablet thingy for my computer so its like drawing but goes straight on screen, its just made animation free and fast, though im making lots of action animations that dont really make any sense.

Hello Fans of Kate Modern and everyone in between, my name is Ricky Martin and I have recently become involved in the Online Drama that is Kate Modern, I will be producing the short animations for the video blogs of the character ‘Charlie’, Before I tell you what kind of thing to expect from me, I’m going to tell you a bit more about myself and where iv come from.

I am an Essex boy, from the poo town of Harlow (north of London) I studied art and design at school, which back then meant colouring in. I then did some sixth form in business studies and art, going on study more art at Hertford regional college. I eventually realised I wanted to do media and then left to settle in Bristol at the university of the west of England. At UWE I produced a couple of films fit for festivals, and had my first individual production ‘Post It Prison’ scouted by the British Council. The film gets to enjoy the jet-set life, being screened around the world and I get to sit in doors with no money.

I just finished a course in Media Practice and Animation and since I’ve left have be evolved in some fun projects, including the new music video for ‘Milburn’, which has a Mime in it and I also do the visual mixing for lots of show jumping, lol which is, believe or not is quite entertaining. I recently found time to run away from a job at Debenhams, I was there for four hours perfecting an escape plan, and then put on my Debenhams disguise, walked straight past the woman training me, ran out on to the shop floor to avoid being spotted on the stairs, cunningly remembering the only door codes I needed to escape with my personal affects, and to leave the recently swiped uniform in a place so it could be discovered. Proper James Bond me thinks.

(Heres the boring and pretentious part)
Back to the animations, I produce lots of animations of many different styles, but they do all have one thing in common, they are always hand-made, I wouldn’t say I’m an animation purist but I often think there is no point using computer animation if you can do it by hand just as quick. I appreciate things people have actually made with there hands more than something made artificially on computer. To be pretentious I would describe the animations I enjoy as having an organic feel to them. I am also a big fan of what I like to call ‘Rock N’ Roll’ animation, which is kind of saying ‘F*ck Off’ to the idea of making something really pretty if your content is quite raw, its more a ‘shut up and make it now!’ style which I use for my short sketches and ideas. It’s the art college rebel in me…(I sound very pretentious now)

I write for short film and I hope to shoot some over the coming months, I am also part of an acoustic double act with a guy called Neil Young, ‘Ricky Martin and Neil Young’ Doesn’t get us as many gigs as you would think, but we defiantly rock.
