The old man and his wife sat down on a park bench and watched their small part of the world go by. They had not spoken for more than an hour but this did not bother them; they rarely expended the energy to talk these days. When they looked into each other’s eyes they felt a bond of togetherness, regret and confusion that had long since evaporated in those long, silent wide-eyed stares. Both clasped hands. A passing man glanced at them with a face full of sympathy. He received nothing but an empty, blank stare, and he went on.
Ten years ago, the old man would have been flooded by memories, now he only knew her, his companion, his guardian against insanity. A leaf fell from the tree that would shade them if the wind blew the right way on sunny days, and landed on her face. She did not stir. The old man sat back slowly, satisfied. He sent a last message to his tired hands to clasp hers again, then for the last time he resumed his waiting.
He reflected on the times they came to the bench in the park to sit under the trees and rest. It was not necessary to speak, for they had no need. They had lived together now for sixty years and their family had long gone. It was so peaceful in the park, listening to the birds sing and the leaves in the trees rustle. A chill breeze was starting to come up and the old man knew that it would soon be time to go. Another leaf dropped from the tree and fell lightly into the old lady’s face.
She did not move. It just sat there until a zephyr of wind caught it and blew it away. He looked at her. The expressionless face told him, her time had come. Her hands were cold and she did nothing except sit there, quite still, leaning against him as she often did. He was sad and yet happy, as he knew that soon he too would join her and they would be reunited. He pulled his coat tightly around him to keep out the last of the afternoon chill and continued to hold her hand. His lifelong companion was still beside him; lifeless. He knew what he must do. Just a few more minutes he thought, before the final separation, just a few more precious minutes, then I must go.

you dont change , your just the silly owen that i got to know then , but nowadays your so much more . your like an amazing .. never melting icicle (: you just dont melt . i love you because your sweet and you just seem to never want to leave me . im always the one breaking up the hugs , doing stupid things , acting like an idiot . you would practically do anything for me , which shows how much you do love me . you act like a bf in front of people , holding my hand or hugging me or finding myself getting unexpected kisses (: you make me so happy . when i see you i immediately feel all warm and pink like nothing could EVER hurt me because your here with me at this moment . some people might say im obsessive , but really im just a loved up girl who loves the attention of a brilliant guy like owen . i love being with you , you always seem to know what im thinking and when i move just the TINIEST bit you rearrange your position to match mine . you know im a wriggly worm and when i sit on you i always move and you laugh because im being just so silly . people think were weird because were so different but really oppisites DO atract . youve taught me things . like how to look on the positive side , how to not care about how i look like because you love me no matter what , youve made me more self concious about my hair because your always flicking around and then i tell you to stop FUCKING WITH YOUR HAIR . i remember when we lay on the field really early together . and then when i came early to school when we would just sit with my ds and our phones listening to music while people walked passed us , giving us withering looks . I love mufti days because i make you take off your jumper and then i get to wear it and just sit and breathe in the heady scent B)
