It contains myriad institutions to pursue global aims, including: managing conflict; ensuring food supplies; protecting global health; improving labour standards; and many more. The UN has almost 200 members.
The current secretary General of the UN is Ban Ki-Moon, a South Korean diplomat who has prioritised finding a resolution to the Darfur conflict since coming to office in early 2007.
The UN is rarely very effective at resolving problems, however it's broad membership and humanitarian infrastructure give it a moral legitimacy which is widely acknowledged.

My name is Lori Zarlenga-Blaquiere. I am requesting a full investigation of former President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama and Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri with regard to illegally issuing orders to kidnap and murder me. The United States Government has illegally wiretapped my telephones, hacked my computers, and continued to surveillance me to date, despite the newly elected President Barrack Obama.
The American people have been fooled by the Bush and Obama administration. The American people have elected dictators.
Former President George W. Bush and the current President Barack Obama have violated the United States Constitution and have committed crimes against humanity. The orders issued under President George W. Bush administration to assassinate me or anyone they deem a threat to their political agenda or coverup has continued under the Obama administration. I began being surveillanced sometime after I filed a lawsuit Blaquiere v. Showa Denko K.K. et al(U.S. District Court Rhode Island, C.A. No. 1: 95-629) (U.S District Court South Carolina, MDL C.A.No.7:96-361-0) ( United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, C.A. No. 03-1783), ( United States Supreme Court C.A. No. 03-5562).
I filed the above lawsuits against Showa Denko K.K. et al as a result of being injured by contaminated genetically engineered L-tryptophan manufactured by Showa Denko K.K. which caused the first genetically engineered disease, ( EMS) Eosinophilia Myalgia Syndrome. Contaminated genetically engineered L-tryptophan manufactured by Showa Denko K.K. killed and severely injured thousands of Americans. Therefore, the FDA permitted the continued illegal use of L-tryptophan. On December 7, 2006, I filed a complaint in the United States District Court of Rhode Island, ( Lori Zarlenga-Blaquiere v. Edward Charbonea et al C.A. No. 06-543 ML ), against a number of United States Government Officials and agencies in connection with orders to kidnap and murder me. "Dear Politician,
We, a group of world citizens, are writing to draw your attention to the plight of Zimbabwe's cholera victims and to ask that you use all the resources and contacts at your disposal to arrange to send immediate humanitarian aid so that more deaths may be prevented.
The UN's World Health Organization has stated that, as of December 27th, more than 1,500 people have died of this readily treatable condition and that a total of 26,497 have become ill since the outbreak began in August. The WHO further warns that the death toll could rise to 60,000 if people are not cared for in a timely manner.
The rainy season is upon Zimbabwe which is sure to bring further health complications. Urgent action is therefore required.
The Government of Sweden recently sent $ 5 million US in aid. This is a good start but it is not enough.
Please help prevent a major tragedy by bringing all your influence to bear in this matter.
