OCTOBER - Whiringa a Nuku
Bringing the korero to your whare part 2
RETURNING YOUR ITEMS
All the returns slots (apart from the drive-by returns) are now automated. As is the case with most new technology, there have been a few teething problems.
Some customers are receiving overdue letters or finding charges on their cards for items that were returned in good time. Please don’t be offended if you receive an overdue notice for something you have returned. Let us know and we will straighten things out.
We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and hasten to assure customers that we are working very hard with our supplier to find a solution to the situation and hope to have it resolved in the very near future.

NZ BOOK MONTH PICKS
Willie Apiata, VC
Back in July, we asked everyone to vote for Rotorua’s favourite book in preparation for NZ Book Month. We shortlisted a range of NZ’s favourite titles to choose from and what a great response we had! Out of all the entries, one book was way out in front and it was….Willie Apiata, V.C. - the reluctant hero by Paul Little. “People are calling you a hero. Are you a hero?” “I’m Willie Apiata” Paul Little is a very experienced journalist, having been editor of Metro, The NZ listener and FQMen magazines. He is currently the editor of Heritage New Zealand. Willie Apiata, VC: The reluctant hero 958.1047z API (NZ Services)
CELEBRATING OUR AUTHORS
NZ Book Month is a chance for us to celebrate kiwi authors, illustrators, publishers, libraries and storytellers and to promote the veritable feast of books now available. From historical to DIY, lifestyle to children’s books, the range is increasing with each year as new and sometimes younger talent emerges.
The SIX PACK (three), a collection of short stories by both established and emerging NZ authors is due for release in October. There were 30,000 copies of the previous version printed and so the quest to have work included is strong. Last year 500 authors submitted entries for the SIX PACK. Watch out for this year’s copy which will be available soon in the library.

Teens Book Club here at the library, 2nd floor in the NZ Services area. Ellie is down with the "classics" (like hardout). For those who think the "classics" are not all that ... I bet that you've watched a movie not knowing that it's come from a CLASSIC book because its got your favourite actor/actress playing the lead role ... think about that one ...
P.C Cast and Kristin Cast "HOUSE OF NIGHT" series have the teens waiting in the queue to read as the books are hardly on the shelf for very long! To get in on the buzz you can try your luck by coming to the library to see if the book/s are in or you can reserve them. Teen's and children's items are free to place on reserve. Holla at us and we're be more than happy to assist you.
Book 6: So…you’d think after banishing an immortal being and a fallen High Priestess, saving Stark’s life, biting Heath, getting a headache from Erik, and almost dying, Zoey Redbird would catch a break. Sadly, a break is not in the House of Night school forecast for the High Priestess in training and her gang ... WATCH THIS SPACE
Book 5: What if the hottest guy in the world was hiding a nameless evil, and all he wanted was you? At the start of this heart-pounding new installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey’s friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren’t Neferet’s secrets any longer. But an unexpected danger has emerged. Neferet guards her powerful new consort, Kalona, and no one at the House of Night seems to understand the threat he poses. Kalona looks gorgeous, and he has the House of Night under his spell. A past life holds the key to breaking his rapidly spreading influence, but what if this past life shows Zoey secrets she doesn’t want to hear and truths she can’t face?
Book 4: Life sucks when your friends are pissed at you. Just ask Zoey Redbird – she’s become an expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a close group of friends who trusted and supported her, to being an outcast. Speaking of friends, of the two Zoey has left, one is undead and one is unMarked. And Neferet has declared war on humans, which Zoey knows in her heart is wrong ....
Book 3: Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare situation of having three boyfriends. Mix a little bloodlust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn't get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead ....
Book 2: Zoey has managed to settle in at the House of Night and come to terms with the vast powers the Goddess Nyx has given her. Just as she finally feels she belongs, the unthinkable happens: human teenagers are being killed, and all evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves.
Book 1: After she is Marked, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is mis-using her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny— with a little help from her new vampyre friends.
Due to unforseen circumstances, this event has been CANCELLED

Mereana Slade exhibition is titled "Karaka" - the reasoning becomes obvious as soon as you see the collection of bright orange coloured art in Toi Tangata.

Krishna Smith
Krishna honoured our library by offering to exhibit his stunning painting, "Whaingaroa ki te Aroha" -The great pursuit of love/compassion for our opening ceremony in July.
It depicts a sunset scene from Whaingaroa (Raglan) on the west coast of the North Island. The central korare (flower) stem of the harakeke (flax) signifies oneness- solitude or unity, depending on the viewer’s perception

Gidday Rotorua Librarians
I'm not much of a reader myself these days but I do like lots of pictures
You can thank RSA cards in school for that...such a long time ago. My son is 9yrs old and I encourage him to do his homework all the time (punishment - no xbox or playstation) but the reading bit, well, we're getting there. We started on a novel The Roman Empire and without editing it myself, well oh my gosh
(do you know the book) - let's just say it's not for a 9yr old
...sticking fingers in...anyway, my lack of enthusiam prompted this (what a slack Mum
). Well we've since gone into War novels and some of them may be a little gory! Just thought to drop this by for food for thought. You guys do a great job...luv what you've done to the page xoxo Ozzie Connect, Sharina
