Need to know symptoms of Autism? 796 days ago
Subject: On a Need to Know Basis, Do You Know All You Need To Know!
Body: It is shocking how many people still do not know what Autism is. Please help raise awareness. Please copy and paste this and post it so that you may help to educate people about Autism.
The list of symptoms associated with autism is long and can vary dramatically from person to person. However, here are some common symptoms:
- Preferring to be alone.
- May not want to cuddle or be cuddled
- May not point
- Abnormal social play or lack of pretend play
- Not responding to verbal cues; ex.- does not respond to name
- Difficulty or complete inability to express needs and wants
- Interaction with others is difficult or non-existent
- Delay or total lack of speech
- Repeating back words or phrases
- Ritualistic behaviors
- Repetitive body movements (rocking, tip toe walking, hand flapping)
- Preoccupation with parts of objects such as: lights, spinning objects
- Possibly aggressive or self-injurious behavior
- Abnormal response to stimuli (over or under sensitivity)
- Abnormalities in eating ("pocketing" food, not chewing, issues with certain textures of food)
- Inappropriate attachment to objects (stick, puzzle piece. paper, ect.)
- No fear of dangerous situations
- Unaware of others feelings
- Inability to socialize
- Lack of waving/pointing/hugs (social behaviors)
REMEMBER these symptoms are only a guide. Autistic Spectrum Disorders are very complex. Sufferer's are unique. It is not unusal however for a child to show traits of other A.S.D'S too. A.D.H.D. and P.D.D. often go hand in hand with Autism. Also O.C.D
Autism is growing at an alarming rate. Children with Autism can improve with the appropriate help. If you do not know someone with Autism now you will soon.
This Sentence is shocking but true!!!!
M.C.D.D.= Multiple Complex Develpomental Disorder.
MCDD is a 'rare' form of Autism showing traits of all ASD'S and PDD.
Asperger's syndrome, Autism, ADHD etc.
all these together does complicate matters and we are yet to find another MCDD sufferer.
Remember....Different is COOL.
YOU may think these children are weird...but they think's you are too!!!
WHY would you wanna be like someone else??? be proud to be unique!

~THE AUTISM BILL~
The first law to help people with autism came a step closer to reality on the 21st jan 09 with the announcement that Cheryl Gillan MP (drawn first in the private members' bill ballot) will take forward the autism bill with the backing of 14 autism charities, including the National Autistic Society (NAS). this is great news for the thousands of people affected by autism, who can feel so isilated& ignored.
there is still a way to go towards making this reality, for the bill to reach the next stage in parliament at least 100 mps are needed to vote in favour of the AUTISM BILL
YOU can help by contacting your MP & urge them to turn up & vote in support of the AUTISM BILL
~WHAT THE BILL WILL ACHIEVE~
~strenghen info about the numbers of ppl with autism & there needs, so locail servises & planning can improve.
~improve working to secure effective transition 4 young ppl with autism from child to adult servise.
~to ensure support & services 4 ppl with autism in there adult life.
EVERY parent with a child with ASD should support this bill
for there childs future as they wont be children forever.
for more info on the AUTISM BILL or to check if ur MP is already involved plz look at the nas website, theres even a link that will help u to email ur mp if he isnt.

Hiya I'm relaunching the AS Support Group Online website to raise awareness for Aspergers Syndrome. It's a form of Autism. I'm hoping that we can get as many people to visit the site as possible. If you would like to learn about this disorder click on http://www.assupportgrouponline.org It's totally free and we don't require any money from you. Just that you take the time to read and try to understand this disorder.

hi my son has just turned 3, about 2 months ago the educational doctor told me she think he has autism. to begin with i was devasted, just to think my georgous little boy was not "normal". but he is the most intellagent child i have ever meet, and he is the 3rd of 4.
they seem certain he has it as he has alot of the symptoms, hand flapping, lack of speech he only has afew words, doesnt seem to hear you , doesnt seem to understand what you say to him, although the eye contact has improved . lines things up ie cars and gets so annoyed if his little sister breaks the line e plays in his own wee world and doesnt like to play with the family. it is soo good to have this page because nobody understands, often he is mistaken for being naughty and hes not. xxxxx
my brother is 7years old and he was diagnosed with aspergers syndrome when he was 5, he gets it hard at school by a group of boys that see him as an easy target. he is medicated so he can concentrate with his school work. when paul comes home from school if there has been a change in his routine or he has somthing on his mind he will tend to be quite agressive and argumentive. but because of this we can spot that theres something wrong and talk to him about it, when he has gotten it off his cheast he feels much better and is a happier child. just because he is 'different' i dont think he should be judged as he is a gorgeous, smart, loving boy, and im glad i have him as a brother. i wouldnt change him for the world.

but wouldnt change them for the world........
My wee brother has Autism. He is almost 8 years old and was diagnosed wen he was 2 and 1/2 years old. I love him so much. He is my little angel. <3

Hiya everyone. My son Andrew is nearly 7 and i am really struggling with trying to get him out of nappies. I have been told he will do this in his own time but the nappies he is wearing are getting too small and the next size is adults. Any suggestions ?
I have a son who is five years old with socialism disorder (another one of there fancy terms for autism) i have been told he has the iq of a 2 and a half year old. Does any one have any ideas to keep him busy so he is not always annoying his brother and sister who are 4 and 19 months as iv tried everything but he enjoys taking the toys of them, or breaking them on them so they get upset and cant play any more.
Iv also been told if he does stuff like that to give him time out but all he then does is gets worse when taken off time out as he cant understand why he was put there.
Due to on going work and support on Autistic Angels, unfortunately I have to leave this wee page as a moderator, but its been a genuine pleasure to be a part of it and I will keep in touch.
Love to you all....
