Edinburgh 27/11/2008
A good show as always this year! Here are the Strathy results:
Derek Robson Vs Neil Johnston (Edinburgh Uni):
Derek started the fight well, working behind his solid jab and connecting with some great right hands over the top of Neils guard. The fight was stopped shortly after the start of the second round with the referee deciding that Neil was in no position to continue the fight. A superb début from Derek aka Flash Boy!
Steve Ewart Vs Samir Khader (Aberdeen Uni):
Next up was Strathclyde A.B.C.'s "Slimmer Of The Year", Steve Ewart! Steve Started the fight strongly, landing some incredible punches which visibly shook his taller opponent. However Steve's lack of aggression proved his undoing, allowing Samir to recover and use his reach to start picking Steve off, landing a cracking uppercut in the second and forcing an 8 count. The fight was eventually stopped at the end of round 3 after Sam connected with a crushing body shot. Steve has come a long, long way since joining us 6 months ago and loosing over 3 stone! Steve will come back stronger and should be proud of his performance against a good opponent.
Mike Atkinson Vs Steve Shields (Edinburgh Uni):
Mike had an unexpected slow start to the fight, sitting back while his opponent landed with some wild right hands. The start of the second round was more of the same, however Mike came alive about half way through showing some of his flair. The third round was a boxing class by mike, easily the best display of the night! Mike landed about every punch in the book, his slick footwork ensuring Steve hit only thin air. Mike got a majority points win.
I'd like to thank Edinburgh Uni A.B.C. for putting on another well run show, especially Ian Mack (who also had one of the best fights of the night, if not the most technical!). All the boxers were well matched and from what i saw the judges were about spot on. Well done to all the Strathy boys who took part, another fine display of boxing, fitness and generally what we're about at Strathclyde A.B.C. Also cheers to everyone who came along to support and who helped out in the corners.

St Andrews
An excellent show followed by a great night!
First up was Jeff against Abdullah from Aberdeen. Jeff dominated from the start landing some really heavy punches and putting Abdullah on the run. Much the same in round 2, this time it was right body hooks that hurt his opponent most notably. Round 3 saw Jeff begin to tire and without the same level of pressure Abdullah began to land some solid jabs and rights - too little too late though, Jeff wins his first fight unanimously! Well done mate.
Next was Kiff, second fight against a club boxer in two weeks! From the start it was clear that his opponent, Ross Love was a decent boxer. His fast footwork and head movement meant that Kiff landed little, but as Ross also had little in the way of clean shots the round was pretty even. In round 2 Kiff was able to use his reach to land some good straight shots with Ross throwing (but mostly missing) the heavier punches. The third went to Ross after he landed a couple of cracking uppercuts which hurt Kiffs confidence as much as his head! A close fight, taken by Ross. No shame in losing to such a good boxer!
Jahan fought Alex from St Andrews in the last of the Strathy bouts. A true clash of styles in this one! Both looked really evenly matched and the first two rounds consisted purely of Jahan landing 1s and 2s cleanly and Alex countering with left and right hooks (landing just as cleanly). Round 3 had Jahan rocked a couple of times with some heavy hooks, but did well to find his range again. The heavy punches caught the judges eyes and they gave it to Alex. A good début, Jahan will be back next season an improved boxer because of it!
All the decisions that i saw were really well called and the referee also did a great job, wasting little time with 8 counts and stoppages.
Cheers to everyone who came along to support our fighters!
Special shout out to Gemma who drove some of the guys over and Tom Carter from St Andrews who organised the event.
