Out of the 1,700 bands that entered mobileAct unsigned we are now down to just six. But, it’s not necessarily the end of the road for all the bands who’ve been voted out.

If they made it into the final 11 and get voted out any time between now and 3rd December, then viewers can give their favourite’s a second chance of being in the semi-finals. All they have to do is vote online on the mobileAct website www.mobileAct.co.uk
The final eleven bands are Envy and Other Sins, Out From Animals, The Headliners, You and What Army, Magda Sinit, Bad Robots, Revenue, The Mentalists, Hijak Oscar, Mancini, and GingerBread Men.

When just three of the bands remain viewers will have the chance to vote their favourite band back in. Voting will take place on the www.mobileact.co.uk website and remember this is only for bands who have made it into the final 11, but been thrown out since
Viewers can vote for FREE via the mobileAct website. Voting opens at 1.30pm after Show 9 airs on 2nd December and closes at the end of the week.

The top four bands with the most votes will be invited back to perform once more in front of the judges. They will decide which one of the four enters the competition and joins the other three finalists in the semi-final which goes out on air on 16th December. They will then have the chance to win the competition and the biggest music prize on offer this year.

TV Show
Tune into Channel 4 every Sunday at 12:30pm to catch the latest instalment of the mobileAct TV show. We cast our nets far and wide to find the most talented unsigned bands out there. Now we have them, we’re subjecting them to a gruelling audition process – playing live in front of our panel of expert judges. In the line up we have radio’s Jo Whiley, Blur bass player Alex James and top industry A&R man, Simon Gavin. Each audition also sees our judges joined by a special guest. So far we have seen Lily Allen and Calvin Harris join the panel, giving their frank opinions on performances good and bad – this week former Sugababe Mutya Buena takes her turn on the couch.

Only a handful of bands can make it through to the next round, but if your favourite band gets knocked out, don’t worry. We’re reserving one Wildcard place in the Semi Final to be chosen from all the eliminated bands. The most popular bands will battle it out in a special live gig to win a reprieve and potential short-cut to the Final. Fans will be able to register and support their bands throughout the whole competition.

At the end of it all will be one spectacular live final. You’ll have watched the mentors polish the bands from rough diamonds into musical gems but only one band can walk away with a record deal.

Presenter and judges
Alex Zane is a presenter, stand-up comedian and DJ. Previously he has co-presented Popworld and the accompanying Popworld Radio podcast with Alexa Chung until the programme ended in July 2007. He has narrated an E4 television show, Princess Nikki, and made appearances on Channel 4 entertainment programmes such as The Law of the Playground, 8 out of 10 cats and Balls of Steel.

Our judging panel consists of Alex James, Jo Whiley and Simon Gavin.

Alex James said he’s very excited to be part of a show searching for new bands ‘that have something special about them’. Unlike other talent shows which, ‘just parade puppets and morons desperate for fame’ mobileAct unsigned is all about ‘good original songs”.

Jo Whiley wanted to be involved in mobileAct as she has shown an unwavering commitment to discovering and promoting original and groundbreaking music. Previously, Jo has presented televised coverage of major music festivals, such as the Glastonbury Festival.

Simon Gavin is head of A&M Records. Artists he works with include: Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Ms. Dynamite and Daniel Bedingfield.


The prize
mobileAct unsigned’s winning act will receive an incredible record deal with Universal’s bespoke label imprint, A&M records. A label with an amazing history – its roll call of artists includes Burt Bacharach, The Police and The Carpenters – plus recent US success story The Black Eyed Peas.

These days it is home to some of the most exciting acts in the UK, the winning band will be able to count The Horrors, The Hours and Patrick Wolf as label mates.

Our winners will receive a hefty cash advance and then head straight into the studio to record their first single in late December. Then, after the first single the band will head back into the studio to work on their debut album. They will also have a tour with a merchandise deal – which all amounts to one mighty mighty prize…

For those of you who didn’t get through, or for those of you who never entered in the first place, put the following date in your diary – Sunday 7th October. That’s the date that MobileACT unsigned will be coming to TV screens across the nation. Get your friends round, get some snacks in, and be the first to see which of the finalists will land that enormous record deal, and which bands end up in the gutter where they started.
