- Afroscots United was formed in the summer of 2004 with the main aim of encouraging young people into sport. Although the target population was that of the Afro-Caribbean community, Afroscots United has become a powerful and diverse organisation in promoting equality, by bringing people together, irrelevant of race, background and belief. Indeed, this is evident by the fact that Afroscots United currently has members from: Africa (Algeria, Angola, Ghana, Libya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe); Asia; the Caribbean; Scotland; and many other backgrounds. Therefore, Afroscots United’s vision has evolved and is more holistic in that it focuses not only on sport but also aims to improve the overall well-being of the community by encouraging social inclusion and an appreciation of many diverse cultures in Glasgow.
